If I understand this right, I can use a normal microphone cable for AES/EBU, right?

yeah,but a digital cable(different wire and specs,electronically)would be more reliable and jitter free.

hmm.. I have never actually seen a digital AES/EBU specific cable..
Any info?

the only difference with mic's balanced it's cable's impedance of 110.

Whats the impedance of a regular mic-cable?

And will it matter over 3 feet?

mic cable impedance's are not specified.it's also bandwidth.the digital cable requires a greater bandwidth.
