These Settings will fine tune your systems memory

management -atleast 256MB of ram recccomended

go to startrunregedit -and then to the following key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerMemory Management

1.DisablePagingExecutive -double click it and in the decimal put a 1 - this allows XP to keep data in memory now instead of paging sections of ram to harddrive yeilds faster performance.

2.LargeSystemCache- double click it and change the decimal to 1 -this allows XP Kernal to Run in memory improves system performance alot

3.create a new dword and name it IOPageLockLimit - double click it and set the value in hex - 4000 if you have 128MB of ram or set it to 10000 if you have 256MB set it to 40000 if you have more than 512MB of ram -this tweak will speed up your disckcache

Reboot and watch your system fly

On second thoughts.....
My computer decided that it didn't like it. Ran well for a little while, then crashed!!
Just when you think XP is stable!!?
Oh well.

could be bad memory too.

OK. I know these changes crashed the computer because SFP has never crashed on me before. It might not have been XP as the cause, in fact the first 2 registry changes went well initially, the third was an instant crash. There's nothing wrong with the memory, everything works perfectly well. Nothing ever crashes. If you have any ideas as to why these registry changes should affect SFP, XP or anything else, let me know, as it really was fast for a little while.

If you're not happy with them, change them back. They work fine for me.

I have changed them back and all is well. Just a pity it didn't work.

Hello to all!

I have tried too this memory tweak and it worked very nice. My PC was finally taking full advantage of its RDRAM.
However, things got screwed up when I tried to load some instruments in GigaStudio. Although, I still had 50% memory free to load more samples, gigastudio told me that there is not memory available and showed me then a nice blue screen. This happened 10 consecutive times. Then I changed the settings back and everything was fine again.
It seems that Gigastudio doesnt like this memory tweak....such a pity!....

It could be related to the fact Giga caches all attacks in ram .... perhaps email them about it and only one of the tweaks can't be done....

Question: If I change these registry settings, is there a chance Windows won't boot up? I'm anxious to see if it does improve performance, but I don't want to mess up anything crucial.

There's no risk involved in editing these registry entries, when edited as EarlyFirst explains...

I had some problems once, but then I had tried to get rid of as much as possible of the registry, deleting all unknown or unused filetypes, drivers etc

i have hexidecimal checked for all three items in your memory tweak.

I just did this tweaks, but i want some advice. I did a benchmark test with FreshDiagnose before and after.
the results:
...................before....after
integer assignment 14,893 12,778
real assignment 14,615 13,056
integer split 20,753 20,666
real split 20,955 20,873

numbers..numbers but "before" was close to RDRAM pc800.
I got Crucial 512MB pc3200 DDR.
I will still try this settings.
Could anybody explain what happend.

Each step tells what to change hex or dec...

as far as benching your system after just these tweaks it's not a good idea, as this is just one part of tweaking when going for all out speed more on that later

one other thing someone someone emailed me and said by not doing number 3 they noticed the better improvement
