I've downloaded the Plug-ins Manager User manual (10MB), full of installation pics, you can see the pulsar II and the ScopeSRB installed inside their DreamStation. I knew Creamware Technology was a REAL PRO Open system.
What I like in SFP are the synths (especially the Minimax and the Six-String, and some other synths for sure)
I like also some FXes; my opinion is that the SFP reverbs are inferior in quality compared to the convolution reverbs (especially the Samplitude's Room Simulator), and Creamware cards can't do convolution. I like the Vinco, too.
What I really don't like with SFP is that there is no bouncing possible in XTC mode. I hope SFP 4 will change this behaviour, but there is no Creamware's communication on this topic. It is a SFP's weakness if you compare it to other DSPs solutions like UAD and Powercore.
What has to be considered IMO, is that the actual Creamware's cards will not be compatible with the PCI Express that will come in some months. So if you want to upgrade your PC for your Creamware's cards (I'm in this case), you have few months to do it before it's too late.

Does anyone know if PCI Express boards are going to be backwards compatible with existing PCI cards? It'd be pretty stupid if they weren't.

Maybe some actual PCI cards will be compatible (backward compatibility) with the PCI Express (I'm not really sure of that point)
What I'm sure about, is that the Creamware's actual PCI cards will not be compatible with PCI Express; a friend technician has certified me about that.
Unfortunately I'm not a computer technician myself, and can't give you the explanation why it is so.
But ask for explanations at someone more qualified than me, he'll gives you the answer.
the current cards have a few years left in them, still.(some ARE STILL using tdat and i'm sure it's not because it's useless!)
cheer up!life goes on and another computer part goes obsolete.get you use out of them while you can!hey!you could even make some money so you can get the new one when it comes out!
oh yeah,fairlight.......
good company...(to be in.!?)
