Hello dear pulsarians.

I'm not asking directly for your rates, I know lots of us have home studios for our own musical development/enjoy, but I think we all are familiar with people that aproach us asking if we can record them or their bands, so they want to know how much it will cost.

I know the rate varies a lot from each facility, specially due to the gear a particular studio has on their racks/DAW's, also the prestige counts on this.

I've been using the simplest approach I can, X amount per hour (note X is a very small amount ). The problem comes later when they askme to masterize the recordings, then I cannot picture well the way I can charge so they (and me) be happy, mainly because the masterizing process is a time consuming one and because the "clients" are not there, so it's normal to see them coming to check the work and suggesting changes here and there, and the process repeats, and you know they have a budget to stick with.

So if you guys can spread some light on this, cause I want them to come back, so I want to have a clear and fair scheme.

Thanks

Snoopy.

i charge $30US an hour for mastering, noise reduction and cd layout. a cd project ususally takes 5-8 hours starting from dumping into the computer to the final layout of the cd. i also charge $15 for extra redbook cd's and provide a cd of the final wav. files.
