I'm planning to buy a second synth, and therefore I need a
second analog linein port to connect the new synth to the computer.

At the moment it feels quite expensive to buy the A16 Ultra for
the need of connecting just two synths.
I wonder if anyone has got some experience of using the
linein port on the builtin soundcard on the motherboard together
with the CW boards? (I have a Asus P4B533-E mobo)
Or is it impossible to do so?

there's a new generation of multi-channel Adat converters advertised everywhere.
Some are quite cheap, but all previous ones seem end up with even more reduced prices.
If your digital in is free, a DAT with mechanical problems (generally beyond repair)might be a better choice (ebay).

cheers, Tom

I would recommend a digital mixer front-end to your system (for your synths and any future input you want to add).

The Event EZBus is great - it provides 8in/8out in ADAT format - plus you get a digital mixer and midi control surface. It also includes two mic preamps and direct instrument level input (guitar/bass). Right now you can get a $100 rebate (in the U.S.) from Event Electronics. I ended up getting the mixer for $455 after rebate. Not bad for all the EZBus has to offer.

If your ADAT IN is free and 16bit/44.1 kHz is enough for you, what about buyin' a Fostex VC-8? It is very cheap!
