Hi there I'm new here.
sitting here looking at the Pulsar one card I'm probably going to buy...
Getting ready to install it as I write this

Up to now I've been using a Soundblaster Live with Cubase VST/32 with good results.

But I felt the time was right to upgrade when I got a very good offer on this card

So.. my questions:

Can you use the pulsar with programs like ICQ and MSN for voice messaging?
If so, can someone send me a projectfile designed for this use?

Can you use it for games?
He he, I got to admit I like Warcraft III and a good bash in Wolfenstein online from time to time.

I also bought the home edition of Win xp today to be ready for Cubase SX.
Any issues here, or does the drivers work fine under this OS?

A last Q:
how low latency can I expect to get with a PIII 1 gig cpu + 512mb's of pc133 ram and a Pulsar card?

I hve 8ms now with the modified APS drivers on my Live card and I do hope to get a bit lower with my first PRO card

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can use Pulsar with those programs and games also.

Did you talk about Pulsar ONE (the old one)? I don't know about the latency, it may not be much lower.

you may have noticed on the ULLI settings panel that you can't push the old Pulsar to less than 13ms at 44 khz.
The sound IS professional though. Its's a pleasure compared to the SB, which I had myself - with the same driver hack
My latency on Pulsar is even higher due to an old plugin (TripleDat), which forces it to 25 ms.
But it doesn't affect me at all because the Pulsar monitors realtime.

cheers, Tom

Welcome to the Z Onkel! It’s great you got a Pulsar Card. Forget about what you have experienced so far… this is a SERIOUS matter… not to be compared with a Sound Blaster at all, except that both of them “sounds”…

The latency issue is so small that you just don’t need to think about it. Just forget completely the matter, cos as a Pulsar owner, you don’t need to worry. The Pulsar I can effectively go as low as 13 ms. Which is unnoticeable already. The Pulsar II, the new card, can go to as little as 3 ms.

You can use any programs you like with Pulsar, it’s not a problem, but don’t go TOO far either, if you intend to be doing some professional works, cos you may get in trouble when loading some projects, or just loading plug-ins, or samples… You can actually have some games, but it’s not convenient to have too many sort of a concoction of programs altogether mixed in a single HD and OS… Perhaps you could consider a double boot system, that would help. Use something like Partition Magic, or Boot Magic, etc.

I have a Pulsar I, the difference with Pulsar II is about the new ULLI and more DSP, that’s it.

You have entered a fantastic world of music, you’ll see… I promise you, Pulsar it’s extremely powerful. I it was once said: “To compare a Sound Blaster card to a Pulsar car is like comparing a bicycle with a high end Austin Martin”

Hi again, and thanks for helping out.
I've gotten a similar offer on a lunacard today and I'll probably go for that since I then can use the ullidriver.

I've just installed it and played some music on it.

Man it sounds clean

Hm just read that win2000 and xp only supports 16bit with the Luna/Pulsar.
Anyone knows when a fix for this will be ready?

It is supported, but there's no options to set like in Win98.

hi onkel,
a nice move would be to get both luna2 and pulsar1 if the price is bargain.
luna 2 gives you ulli, pulsar1 gives you more serious inputs, dsp power and soft goodies....
the nice thing with cw cards is that you can have three, the faster one communicates with pci bus so you have ulli, the others provide dsp and inputs and can share the same irq with the first!
7 dsp is the minimum to get a nice environment with some synths too....

if you get only luna2 you can use some synths too, but maybe one at time to record as audio and so on.....there is plenty of great free stuff that can be used in luna2, and also the old (but great) modular1....

you will find here a nice community, and a lot of tips.

ciao.

p.s. on the off topic forum i posted about a free vst plugin i made, dyno, as it is my first one, i'm curious on how people like it...so if you try it let me know.

Hi there, it's me again

I'm up and running now after almost giving up wit the 3,01 Luna driver.
But things changed for the better, to say the least, with the scope fusion platform drivers.

So...
I have most things set up.
I can record and playback...use voice in MSN...

But:
I can't figure out the xtc mode.
I've read and reread the manual about this, but i can't get it to work.
I got that I need to exit the scope driver to use it.
Ok, so far so good.
I open the asio setting inside Cubase, I can adjust settings but I cant connect it to audio inputs/outputs.

I've tried like 15 times now, but I still don't get how to make it work.
Can anyone help me out?

@Alfonso:
thanks for chiming in I'll be sure to test the plugin out and let you know what I think.

About getting both cards:
I'd love to do it but I just don't have the money for it yet.
I'll have to save up for the xtc card instead

Hi Kim,

Glad you got your messengers to work

There's an excellent XTC guide from Gonzoft in the Tips'n'Tricks section, have you checked it? I made a topic there too about XTC, read both. Believe Gonzoft more than me. He uses XTC every day, I only on saturday nights. No serious, my XTC mode doesn't work that well. Gonzoft might get you started.

Have fun!

Thanks for the tip Atomic.

Hmmm XTCProject.pro ....

I can't find that project file in my folder.

I take it that XTCProject.pro is the file Luna loads when I want to use it in XTC mode?

If I'm right here I would be very happy if someone could mail me the XTCProject.pro file so I can start working on getting it right

I'm using the 3.1c drivers, these are the latest, right?

Slowly, but surely getting set up...

It is not in the projects folder but in your app folder:

SFPAppXTCAppXTCProject.pro

I've posted a request to open a forum category dedicated to the XTC mode, hopefully John (who runs this site) will consider it. More and more people ask XTC specific questions.

Good luck
