Take a look at this link, it seems AMD still have a few tricks up their sleeves, by managing to catch up and in some cases beat the P4 2533, despite only using a DDR333 memory interface.

This is more important for the home hobbyists than for studios, but soon with the right motherboard combination, you may be able to have power and stability at an affordable price.
