this may seem a silly request but... why don't you rename the forum "general PULSAR discussion" to "general MUSIC discussion"??
it seems that there are many thread (very intersting, although) that have nothing to do with pulsar! these forum have become a small comunity (not so small indeed!) and not always the interesting discussions are related to pulsar! so, why not make this forum a place to discuss about Music?
my two cents...

in this way would be TOO general! the word "music" should appear! according to me, this is a place to talk about music, not soccer (for example!)

I don't know, on a forum you get to know people a little bit and sometimes you want to discuss things other than pulsar,
I mean that discussion about what chair is best, has very little to do with music or pulsar, so maybe there should be a seperate section called off topic, but at the end of the day I think theres a limit to how specfic these sections really need to be.
The ideal solution would be to split 'general pulsar discussion' into 'general music discussion' and 'off=topic discussion'
But is it really neccessary? No-one is going to hunt you down in your sleep if you talk about music in the general pulsar discussion, or for that matter if you talk about soccer.

I kind of miss an off topic forum.
On the other hand i don't want to split everything up in millions of different forums so i don't know.
Either way is fine with me.

bosones' suggestion makes sense.
There is a really great "brain trust" here on PlanetZ that seems to know many things about a great... er... many things
A seperate forum for questions like "Why is there air?" would make sense.
BTW: the answer to that question is "To blow up volleyballs"
