It's something like a knife - devides the whole frequency range into 2 parts: lower and higher - the edge of the 2 parts is adjusted by the knob. What is it for? If for instance you have a ready-to-use (listen to) mix that lacks some atmosphere (and you have no separate tracks of the mix) - just add some reverb to the higher part leaving the lower one with no processing. But there are more things you can do with it - it depends on your imagination (as with Lego blocks
.. ) - connect 3 of the devices the way you can have 6 frequency ranges.... yummy...
The generator part is self-describing - generates white and pink noises as well as a sinus sound with adjustable frequency.

Originally it was only a frequency separatot, a kind of crossover filter.
This is useful to separate lo and hi frequencies, to drive separately two way of a monitor loudspeaker.
You could use it also to separate the low or sub frequencies from the signal (below 80 or 100 Hz) to drive a sub woofer.
And finally, I added a noise and frequencies generator, which can be useful to "appreciate" the frequencies going to each loudspeaker.
But this kit could be used for SFX too, depending of your imagination and creativity.
