I just thought I would tell those of you, who had not tested this. I believe it should be possible to do it better with some good home grown cable.

Yep I've had this thought too, after taking apart the cable to look at it, I think a lot of people could do better.

I think I would make a 1 unit half width rackmount box to house the connections, and make my own shielding cable to connect into the card. That way better shielding and more patching options.
I'll let people know the results when I get around to trying this.

Or am i reading it wrong... Hmmm is it posible and maybe cheap to build your own brak out box using the adat ins and out...

he meant a breakout box for the existent connectors, e.g. spdif - 2X analog I/O and MIDI - not anything new - Just better quality and more convenient placement than the back of the 'puter. not to put words in remixme's mouth, but I presume that's what he meant. and a good idea it is too. people have been kicking it around for years . ..

Yep that is what I meant.

I will start work on it soon (ie about 3 weeks), the box will also have a convertor to convert the coaxial spdif to optical spdif. And may also have a SCMS defeater.

But the projects are in this order.
1) Cubase/Pulsar patch scripts to finish.
2) Pulsar resource website
3) Breakout box with SCMS defeater.

Possibly, I mean it would be a bit pointless to replicate what PlanetZ already does so well. But in a sense your spot on.

I should imagine for the newbie and for anyone it would be nice to have lots of files and resources in one place.

The breakout box tutorial will go up there.
As well as the 'flogging a dead horse tutorial' that is optimising your via chipset for pulsar.

Plus other stuff. But will be heavily linked to planetz, its basically a chance for me to brush up my web design and do something useful at the same time.

But would it be possible to add converters for adat to analog in/outs so we could make an additional 16 adat in/out to 16 analog in/out breakout box ?

Or is that to high tech to do ?
It would be amazing.. Wouldn't it...
Especialy for peolple that do not use the adat's at all.

Unfortunetely, that sort of electronics is a little bit out of my league, I doubt wether the quality of a homemade solution would reach that of an A16 or A8.

Not impossible mind you, I can ask around see how feasible it is.

if someone has some schematic for building an home made analog digital I/O adat converter, i for sure will build it, ragrdless of the quality!
i tried to search the web, but i didn't found anything related to ADAT schematics...
i'm very interested in this topic!

I should imagine that converting a single stream digital to analogue wouldn't be that hard.

Decoding the ADAT information into 8 seperate digital channels on the other hand, is an altogether different job.

Just wanted to ask, a while back there were some of you that had no way of controlling the volume of their monitor output,

I was thinking of adding a digital volume control and led fader display.
It should add little or no noise to the circuit and will also be bypassable.
What do you think?

if you are interested i could provide in a few minutes a schematics for the *UNBALANCED* "classic" I/O.

IMHO a GOOD external converter solves ALL KIND of problems!

If it's of any intereste , i will provide such schematics for the "classic" I/O plate breakout connector. I will provide it in a "TXT" form so that anyone could read it.

i don't know if Creamware permits me to publish that pinout description. Perhaps it's a violation of copyright (?) . Or perhaps they want to charge anyone who wants a breakout-cable-replacement-part . I dunno... i must investigate a bit around this theme.
