I know how you feel. I'm using VST and the Waves products. I've also got the Behringer DSP2490 system outboard. I've considered even getting the Powercore for kicks but was looking at the CW Mastering Comp. http://www.dspdev.com has a nice mastering compressor as well. Looks and sounds decent. There are a lot of choices. Here's the CW list that I know of:

CW Optimaster: http://www.creamware.de/en/products/sof ... atures.asp

DSPDEV Compressors: http://www.dadev.com/products_Compressors.asp

Sonic Timeworks Mastering Compressor: http://www.sonictimeworks.com/products.html#pulsar

There may be more, if you like check the devies page on this site. I hope that helps.

What I would like on the 'z is a comprehensive comparison review of each of these products. Not neccessarily a shoot out but a buyers guide explaining to the unaided ear such as mine what each one sounds like and why maybe for my studio I might buy one over the other.

hey, cheers for the links...

the old masterin is a bit of a pain since i gotta do it all in wavelab with the steinberg ones...they are very nice but i'd like a pulsar one for quality and handiness.

and then there's the outboard option, i WOULD consider something more top-end in the future but i think the plug-ins these days are more than adequate..

To get it right: for pc only, not for Mac.
