Has anyone out there successfully run a pulsar1 and 2 STDM linked, with Raid HD,winxp or 98se pulsar3.1 and cubase32 v5.1 on one of these boards yet??????

judging by your name, should be easy.be you mortal, performance will be mediocre.

Haven't had any problems yet but I'm forced to use a VIA chipset in a couple of weeks and the forums are full of stuff on older boards but not this one, just wondered if there was anything new other than wpcredit or wpcrest etc

All via boards, including the latest KT333 chipsets, have the same performance issues.

Also you may want to look at my post Optimising your via chipset for pulsar
If you do need any specific help feel free to send me a private message.

REMIXME :
I tried your tips for my KT266 Via chipset...And i haven't see any change. I set the latency to 4ms (Athlon 1400, 256 Mb) and there's a lot of click. My SBlive can have 2ms without click !
Why PCI latency doesn't work well only with my LUNA 2 board :
You want to discredit VIA board, but I haven't see any problem before I put my Luna card....

I don't strictly have a problem with VIA when they work, we have a via266 doing 3d rendering with very little problems.

I am annoyed that creamware cards don't work with them as they should. I think VIA could do a better job, they always seems to rush their chipsets onto the market.

Sblive at 2ms? What drivers? I'm intrigued. I still have some sblives kicking about.

My tips where intended to squeeze the maximum pci performance out of the board.
I have a pulsar I that will only go at 13ms.

The reason your sblive will work at 2ms is because it uses tricks to hog the pci bus for as long as possible, but this has been known to cause problems with other devices, such as the 686B bug. Remember?

The luna card on the other hand is designed to proper specification so will only grab the pci bus when it can, but Via chipsets don't allocate pci bus space properly, the luna gets interupted by other devices that is what causes the clicks that you hear.

Did you try taking out the sblive and using powerstrip to set pci latency, using powerstip is the key thing.

Also don't forget that subhuman recommends a 2ghz pentium for running at 4ms. Otherwise you will also get clicks, do you have this kind of cpu power?

My SBlive work fine with the KVR driver (really really stable !)...I have an AThlon 1600 (not 2Ghz)...and I have 7ms ! It's not a problems for the synth, but for Monitor Input (not direct) i feel the delay.
I set my PCI latency to 32,64,128,246...But there's no change...When I change the IDE latency I can hear some change !! Is the IDE channel can "influencer" PCI bus? and the AGP ? Must I set 32 latency for AGP and IDE? and if my AGP card is a 2X one, must I configure it to 1X.....And the PCI slot? I have just one PCI card (LUNA) , where must I place it?
PLEASE : I have a problem with the Mixer too (see : http://www.planetz.com/forums/viewtopic ... &forum=1&0 )
I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME LIKE YOU HELPED THE OTHER !
THX

Post your configuration here, without other questions or so. I need more of your system's details before I can help you. That topic is made for your system details.

Is the IDE channel can "influencer" PCI bus?
I think on most VIA chipsets the IDE controller goes through the pci bus, so has a profound effect on pci perfomance. intel chipsets do not have this problem, simply because it is a better design.
A latency of 16 is an okay value for ide, but if you need to run a lot of audio tracks; 25 or more then you might have to change it back

You don't have to set the AGP to 1x if 2x works for you. I did it for stability reasons.
I found that lowering the agp bus latency to 128 (it was at 255 before) however help me to run more masterverbs, and prevented a crackle everytime I switched apps.

The luna card you can place anywhere where it is not sharing an IRQ.

Like atomic said I need a little more info;
what Operating system?
Is USB enabled?
Is ACPI enabled?
Do you have a raid controller enabled?
What version of the pci latency patch did you install?

Also you need to find out whether anyone else has got 4ms latency using your cpu, Subhuman reckoned that his 1.8ghz p4 would just about do 4ms, but that was on a intel setup so.
I might just not be possible on AMD/VIA

SBlive, VIA, and cheap IDE RAID... I'm outta here.

the config I will be using in a couple of days sounds v similar to poudom's. e,g
1400 AMD KT266VIA 256MBDDR EIDERAID WIN98SE
but with Pulsar1 and Pulsar2 STDM linked. I'm told it's currently unstable with W98SE so I'm going to follow the various guides on this forum and upgrade to XP.
Once all tweaks are done, what's the best latency you'd expect I'll see ?

98se is very stable(if you use 98lite!).on your comp however.........
