Just would like to know that. How many boards have been sold so far, how many users of Creamware stuff are out there? I don't want the full financial report but just an indication of how big 'our' community is would be nice.

There are about 1000 registered users on PlanetZ. Is that a lot compared to all Creamware users?

Don't know that, but would like to...

I really hope for cw and for the future of this platform that users are some more than 1000 in the world!

I wish more 3rd party support soon instead, and obviously the more user there are the more this will attract developers...

I would say far less than 5% of CW users are registered here on PlanetZ...

I for example 'view' the topic each time when someone posts something on the topic, or whenever I can't really find it on my drive, ie. after a format or something. Don't think amount of views is a good way of knowing how many people are actually usong it.

If only it were, there would be lots of 3rd party developpers. I think you can count the people that make a living of selling their own devices for CW cards on one hand. Very sad, isn't it? So why would 3rd party be interested? 3rd party is after money, our developpers are not, they (have to) do it for the joy they get out of making the devices and hearing the music made with it.

True, number of views certainly doesn't equate to discrete downloads. But with 10 replies and more than 4300 views the ratio still looks pretty good.

i generally do most the talking in the threads and stuff i post

i do a similar thing that atomic does, keep on peeping in on threads (sometimes obscenely!) i am interested in.

in fact, i often am more or less having it with myself.

*sigh*.

/picks up a can of "discretion"*

while i agree there isn't a whole lot of 3rd party support and development, to say that it is a barren field with only a few signs of life is just a bit much. this is the impression i get from some of you.

but then again, i haven't even bought any 3rd party stuff yet. cause i got over g.a.s for the most part, happy with what i have.

g.a.s = gear aquisition syndrome

You could be write. Whats surprises me is that they have only 60 employes worldwide. Is that including the software writers (there must be another name for software writers Image)

Gotta say that some of the commercial devices are fantastic. Easily half of what I do involves devices I've bought. Also, when you look at VSTi prices the equation looks pretty good.

Of course I don't even come close to what ttoz had ! Is there anything he didn't have ?

For those wondering about how big creamware is or the quality of their products, might be interested in this little bit I came across in AudioTechnology magazine, a very respectable Oz publication:-

In an article describing the new big $$$ Fairlight DREAM systems:-

AT (AudioTechnology) asks RC (Fairlight's product director), "Where are the DSP plugins sourced from?"

"RC: We use a card from Creamware and you get around 70 plug-ins bundled with it, which are a mixture of delays, effects, reverbs.

AT: And this is a new development for DREAM?
RC: We actually have the plug-ins manager working on Fame 2 and Prodigy 2 systems. It's gone out on those systems, using a Yamaha DSP card. It does the job and it provides a host for VST plug-ins, but we weren't entirely satisfied with the quality of DSPs on the Yamaha card - we always thought we could do better. The trouble being that they're 24-bit fixed point DSPs, like the Motorola 56K chips that are used in other plug-in systems. We find that you really can't get the kind of results we like out of a fixed point system. The QDC engine is 40-bit floating point and we very happy with the sound quality floating point can give us. The Creamware is a SHARC-based DSP card that we like a lot. It sounds great and that's very important."

So there you go. Coming from Fairlight, that's a pretty good acknowledgement of the quality of the Creamware products.

Cheers!

But if I look in the Devices sector here, I see lots of (free) devices. I only use the original devices (and within a short period of time the Propack devices also...) but I'm a beginner ofcourse.

Is there really the need to have even more devices (and plugins etc)? Or is this the search for more and new sounds?

What do you guys miss?
