I have been struggling for quite some time now on deciding the best route to upgrade my current system. I would greatly appreciate any comments on the following set up before finally commiting myself to outlaying a fairly hefty amount of money.
Asus P4T-E i850 mainboard>Intel Pentium IV 2.2 (though is there much difference with P IV 2.0 or 1.8 as it would save a bit of money?)>2 hard drives (Seagate Barracuda IV 40GB and Seagate Barrcuda IV 80GB)> Plextor24x10x40 ( or would a cheaper CD-RW be an acceptable option? Such as a Lite-On)> Matrox G550 Dual Head 32 MB video card.
Apparently, the ASUS P4T-E has an embedded 16 bit soundcard. Should this be disabled, or doesn't it make much difference if it is enabled in terms of using up the computer's resources or conflicts of one kind or other? One more final question, should I have a modem included in my set-up or not? Would I need one to get the other half of my Windows XP code or do stuff with Rocket Network( which I can't really see myself using, but you never know)? Plus my other computer has a modem, but I was told that Windows XP needs to configure itself on the computer you would be running it in.
Finally, should I get a standard tower or get it built in a 19" rack? Are there any worthwhile benefits to having a rack system or is it an unnecessary expense?
Any comments would greatly be appreciated;
Thanks in advance
