It's time to get a little serious now For a while, I've relaxed. Now I'll need to earn this dignity, playing should be over. This is the first forum I became member of, so I hope I've grown a bit more mature here. Many here have been around (on the web and in music) much longer, I still feel like a kid here. I have become Pulsar specialist by the grace of this forum, I've learned so much here. Thanks to you all. Looking up problems from other people gave me good insight, as one cannot forget what he's looked up himself.

I wish you all the best, and hope the 1000 posts were meaning something for you. Only trying to learn and give something in return to this beautifull community.

It's a term in the US that means anyone who is overly obsessed with technology, relates to a machine more than a human being and is looked down upon in school. A "four eyes". If the word were in your dictionary you would find the picture of Bill Gates next to it to illustrate the concept. A Nerd. It also used to mean those circus acts that did unspeakable things to chickens and stuck needles in their skin. It used to be a very disagreeable thing to be but the term is gaining respect because if you're a successful geek you will make more money than many athletes and movie stars.

In my language and also in Atomic's one there's a word 'gek', meaning crazy.
I really hope these two words are not related in an etimological way...
Hey Atomic, congrets, and like a real Guru you seem to know the more you know the more you do not know...

traditionally to be called a geek is a major insult.geeks are not socially skilled,they are not strong and manly in appearance,(in fact they are weak and sickly in an obviuosly perverted way from well ,you know, not enough sun and too much pizza and mac-n-cheez dinners)they are obsessive and make their living off of biting the heads off small animals in front of a paying crowd. really,a good discription of one who spends too much time in front of a computer screen.

But I'll add my interpretation to the mix. Living in California, working in Silicon valley, perhaps I have a unique perspective.

I understand that "nerd" is very much what you're calling "totally inept in social situations, thick glasses, no interest in personal appearance, cokes & candybars, etc, etc". The term geek has somehow come to mean a much cooler version of it, which is simply someone who is exceptionally interested in, or talented with technology. A geek isn't so nerdish - can actually be socially capable, good-looking, nice clothes (the things you don't associate with nerds).

I often refer to myself as a geek, tho wouldn't refer to myself as a nerd...

You're all Pulsar geeks, not nerds!
