Hey everyone,

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good Firewire card? I'm running '98 and XP. If anyone can recommend a good link to a site that compares cards, that would be even better...

I hope you don't want the card to connect CW patchbays, cos they require a dedicated CW I/O board w Z-Link connections. Same wire, different protocol.

I supouse you want to get the right firewire card, I've got a FireWire Harddisk a couple of months ago (Glyph x-project), I was tempted to buy the Glyph firewire PCI adaptor, it was 69$ or so, but later when I read the specifications I was happier going to BestBuy and get a CompUSA FireWire Adapter with 5 connections (instead of Glyph's 3 ) for 35$, yes much cheaper and it works perfectly.

I suggest you to read about the FireWire Specifications of the device you want to insert, in my case the Harddisk's was a 400Mb/s , that is the standard FireWire bandwith spec, but If I'm not wrong, it's suppoused to be a huge improvement on those numbers.

as always, your input is greatly appreciated. Actually, I was planning on using a Firewire hard drive for my new laptop (it seems to offer a faster data transfer rate than the 5200 rpm hard drives that it came with), and I figured that it would be nice to simply plug the hard drive into my computer when I was transferring data.
