in last letter (between others) i write to cw:
for your feedback: i had 3 major problems in xp:
1. cd roms problem
2. i had some little distortions (sometimes) on note off when play sts3000
3. i miss GSIF
that's cw's (Paul Tanti) answer:
#1 not only happens with Pulsar ( could be related to DVD) we are still
lookign at this...
#2 we know about this and are working on it.
#3 have it in the latest beta 32channels and working.
btw: i was think that i'm only one with distortions in xp/sts3000, but it's look like i'm not the only one with this problem!?

Yes, I have them distortions (more like short crackles) too. I thought I would not be able to really judge about it because of my standard setup: (ACPI...)it amazes me more and more that there is nothing wrong with it so far.
So, OK, means it's not my 'fault' and I don't have to shrink from guilt every time I hear it

Good to hear that them guys are working on it!

STS-3000 is the cause of many problems with XP.
Crackles, distortions, variable latency, and...instability in big projects ( I've had "PCI limit reached" with no serious reasons until I removed one of the two STS-3000 that were in the project. This project was loading only half of my DSP's, with no reverbs, and the samples wern't huges samples).

With XP, there is the issue with Akaï CD-Roms (unability to read these CD's). We can read these CDs with Akai CDXtract or Awave and copy them on hard disk for use with Creamware's cards, if necessary, but the STS-3000 has no "Fidelity at work"

in XP for now. If you wan't to work seriously and quickly with it, forget it.
There is also the issue with Creamware's wave drivers in XP. They works only at 16 bits.

yes, grok, i had almost the same problems (i don't had "PCI limit reached").
i forget to say that i'm on win98 again (about 2 weeks), because it was imposible to work in xp, but i hope that cw will fix this in new version because vst working nice in xp - much better than in win98.
i need 24bit asio too!
btw: cw always said "we working on it" and after some times everybody forget about it!
"we working on it" is another name for creamware.

Grok - most of those messages never appear on a properly tuned system.
sandrob - there *IS* asio24 in WinXP. try it next time you have xp installed. i use this all the time.

Yes, only WAV24 is not available...

Well, I thought my system was tuned for audio; the only thing I can't edit is the PCI Latency Timer wich is set to 32 with my motherboard (old Gigabyte 7ix, with Athlon Slot A 700 MHz and 768 Mo of PC100 Ram). I've sent an email to Gigabyte asking how to edit this parameter with this motherboard, I'm waiting for their reply.

I hope Creamware will put the new driver WDM (less latency than ASIO!!!) in the 3.1 Scope Fusion, for use with SONAR and others.
WDM, supported by Cakewalk and Microsoft (!) is certainly the new standard for DAW.

Hardly... but maybe some day, yeah.

Unfortunately, Samplitude don't use ASIO drivers but only wave drivers. In XP, recording with Pulsar and Samplitude with more than 16 bit is impossible today. With SONAR, too.
I hope this wave driver issue will be solved with the 3.1 Scope Fusion. Because today, these two very fine pieces of softwares are suffering limitations with the use of the 3.01 software

Yes, although Samplitude is not as popular as Logic, Cubase or Nuendo it is such a wonderful application whith its object orientated assignment of plugs! There´s definitly a need to be fully compatible to that app. plus SoundForge and Sonar of course...

Sunshine

Just out of interest I would occasionally get those crackling noises in the STS3000, but on Windows 98 - particularly for percussion sound sets.
However, they were for .sf2 files not AKAI so it might have been some sort of import anomalies with those particular sound font files. They worked fine in my other .sf2 reading soft samplers so I had enough of a workaround not to care too much.

I also have those crackles using STS3000/WinME/Logic, and to (apparently) lesser extend also with STS4000/5000. Didn't find a solution yet.
Even when little other things are happening on my Intel PIV-1.7 running on i845 chipset.
CW, fix it, please!
