I've finally given up on the idea of getting Reaktor. I've fiddled the demo to death and well, it just doesn't have the guts IMHO

that Pulsar does.... shame because it has some fantastic features.
So, <b>Reason</b>...
I have downloaded the demo, but can someone help me a little:
* If you fill redrum with wav files and program some patterns is it an easy matter to export the pattern as a wav file ?
* Can you select portions of a sequencer pattern, mute various instruments and export as wav ?
* Is there any way other than a simple MIDI clock sync that Reason could sequence Pulsar deives ?
* Can you use external (Pulsar) effects via ASIO in Reason ?
* Is Reason happy under XP ?
* Is the loop player useless without Recycle ?
* Any horrible bugs or surprises ?
thanks,
Spirit

sorry, i don't understand everything what you asking - my english is not good... austarlian too

i just try reason.
you can use reason stand alone but you must set in edit/preferences midi input (pulsar 2 midi 1) and audio output (asio scope).
another way is to integrated reason & cubase together.
first you must run CubaseReFireFix (only one time - not every time), then run cubase. in cubase's vst mixer/view you must enable ReWire channels (have 64 ReWire chanels - don't have to enabled all 64) and then you be able to use reason modules like any other vst instruments.
important: always run cubase firs then reason

1. Yes just set the locaters in the sequencer to define the part you want and mute everything you don't then select export loop as audio file.
2. answered.
3. No and seeing as midi out was one of the most requested features for reason V2 and not included I wouldn't hold your breath.
4. Yes
5. About as happy as every other music app at th moment.
6. If you want to use your own material the yes.
7. Nothing huge.

Hi Spirit,
Reason works as Rewire instrument in Cubase. No other device will give you this sample accuracy, perfect sync and easy transport function.
The Rewire patch in Reason's folder is ONLY meant to reduce your Reason-Rewire connections inside Cubase to 16. Standard you get 64, but you could reduce it if you're short on VST channels. Each Cubase version has it's tracks limits. If you use too much VSTi or want to save tracks for audio, reduce the amount of Reason-Rewire channels to 16 with the patch. The patch is irreversible. It doesn't influence the 18 channels used by Rebirth-Rewire.
You can export through Cubase's Export function on Master Mixer: Select start and end point of the loop, select destination channel in arrangement, set tracks to export solo in the mixer, export.
I like the automation in Reason a lot, it can be sequenced easily (via Rewire2 and standard midi at the same time!) and extensively. It edits it's tweaks much easier than Cubase VSTi would.
Thanks Kenf -just re-opening song when Reason is already started actually works. Been messing w/ it for long rime. Cheers mate
So re-open your cubase song after opening Reason it remembers what Reason midi instruments go with which tracks.
Rebirth doesn't support Rewire2 like Reason, and therefor has to use it's own midi (Windows) port, mostly a SeqDest in Pulsar or via a patchbay.
Reason can be used as simple step-sequencer, but also has another sequencer which is not step based. Or it can be sequenced from within Cubase and externally, as you wish.

"One disadvantage is that Cubase doesn't save the "to come midi instruments when Reason will be loaded" ports in the song. The ports need to be manually assigned after Reason is loaded into Cubase"
Hi If you re-open your cubase song after opening Reason it should remember what Reason midi instruments go with which tracks?
Cheers

Spirit, I use REASON / CUBASE / PULSAR together.
I route each REASON instrument to a seperate REWIRE channel, then in turn route each REWIRE channel via ASIO to PULSAR mixer.
Therefore each REASON instrument gets its own pulsar mixer channel.
Extra MIDI / AUDIO tracks I then record in CUBASE.
The entire mix then comes out of PULSAR, routes back to ASIO / CUBASE for mixdown to CD burnable WAV.
I also run some outboard gear on pulsar mixer inserts via SPDIF.

Ah my Compandre! Dante is dead right.
Reason rewired into cubase(Or Logic) fed into CW Environment via ASIO is the most ridculously easy config I have worked with that gives me every flexibility I require.
If I was to remove bias from this reply I would say to you that I only use reason for secondary sounds amongst my mix. I just think the sound quality could have a bit more......"Life" about it and I find I have to spend some effort to breath life into the sounds coming in from Reason.
Otherwise I have no need (not want, but need) for any other tools. I would only be inclined to spend money on Pulsar plugs or hardware now.
Puls II & Luna II
PIII 1.2 Ghz
384Mb RAM
TUSLC2
W2K
yadda yadda yadda
And never a problem ever (any more).
