The ASUS site info on the ASUS P4B266 (recommended) board mentions the optional on-board audio:
http://www.asus.com/mb/socket478/p4b266/overview.htm

Is this a problem ? Does anyone know whether Pulsar will be unhappy with this onboard friend ? Also with has a S/PDIF-in/out interface option...

I was faced with this question a while back. I was looking for a mobo without a soundcard so I didn't have any problems. Becasue I heard you can have problems with onbaord soundcards and pro soundcards.

But then a computer expert friend told me I could just simply turn off the power to the onboard soundcard in the BOIS. So technicly if it has no power running though it, your computer won't know it's even there.

However your not serious about running the onboard soundcard with your CW card are you? The onboard soundcards are VERY basic and NOT professional. It's like recording a $10 mic though a NEVE console. You just wouldn't do it. (unless you were experimenting or after a crummy sound or after something specific.) Maybe not the best example becasue maybe your $10 mic does the job you want it to do. Maybe you get the sound you want. But then again in the example you have a NEVE console.

Try ASUS P4B266-C, I think it comes without audio.

Hi Sub,

I searched the ASUS site, the audio seems optional on each board. (chk their -C page) IF one doesn't want the audio, I think it's best to confirm that to your dealer...

although ASUS calls it an "option" good luck finding one in your area different from what everyone else has.

they seem to allways have the sound option but never the network one. i wish it was the other way.

Hi there,

If you want an asus board with onboard lan and without onboard sound, you just have to order it from your local dealer. I did for my tusl2-c I didn't want the onboard sound either and I ordered it. It took 'bout two weeks but hey, I had the patience for waiting, knowing that it would help to keep me out of trouble.

Maybe you should check your local dealer and ask him to order it. They all can order, it just takes some time to get the boards to the stores.

Yeah I hear you on that one. Onboard lan is much cooler, especially if its an onboard Intel or 3Com LAN  (see: Intel D850MVL)

even a crappy chipset lan would be cool because of not using thew PCI bus.

It would only be a disaster if you couldn't disable it in some way. If you have no chose but to get onboard sound. Make sure you can disable or turn it off in the BIOS.

And then again, it would be a waste of $$$ not using it.

yes is for that maybe i'm going to buy msi k7n 420 pro, that has onboard lan. but i wonder: DO THE LAN BOARD ITSELF USE PCI LOAD ALSO WHEN NOT WORKING I.E. NOT EXCHANGING DATA?

That would depend on the integrated LAN chip. I've understood there's LAN chips that do, some don't interfere. You could compare it to UDMA and no UDMA on IDE drives I guess. No UDMA type calls a lot on the CPU, the UDMA doesn't need CPU.
Don't ask me which you're getting. I wouldn't know the different types.
