Anyone notice how fast Planet Z has been growing this past six months ? In about a month the number of registered users will probably hit 1000 (lucky door prize?). Last night I noticed that instead of the usual 5 to 10 people browsing there were 23

A healthy, happy forum means a healthy, happy platform perhaps ?

a few weeks ago, i was wondering how many people actually have a pulsar, luna or scope in their machine. does anyone have any numbers? how many people make music, and how many of these do their stuff on a computer? of these computer based musicians/technicians, how many take it more seriously and spend more than $1000 on a sound card? so, i'm really surprised planetZ has nearly a thousand participants.

And that page hasn't been changed in a bit, so I am sure that number is much higher.

And I'm sure that with the direction CW is taking, with the new software and the NOAH they will get a lot more interest from developers and new users. This is really some pretty cool and well thought-out stuff they're doing.

But is this platform actually getting bigger or is it going stale?

I've also noticed that the synths produced for this platform don't seem to shine with uniqueness compared to synths being created for native solutions.

I'm not saying this to create a fight, I'm more looking for opinions as to how Pulsar is faring as a development platform.

There are some pretty impressive synths that I've seen so far like Lightwave and Prisma seems pretty good and Vectron would have to be pretty amazing.

From the freeware I'm really impressed with a couple out there and I've heard that Zarg's synths are pretty amazing, but is it a platform that is on the incline or on the decline?

I'm just curious to hear the opinions of people who have been using this platform for quite some time as I'm relatively new here.

I wonder also... as many of the parts to build a synth are pre built by creamware.. So it seems to me that whatever you want to do, creamware has to do it for you first. But, I don't use the DP package so I wouldn't know the details.

If only creamware would let go of part of the technology, maybe we'd have more freedom and possibilities of development. While that would bring some technical issues, I'd still think it's better for the platform. I'd say, might as well use C as the common development language because then, all you need is a text editor, and some good example code (which there are TONS of). Creamware always trying to be a step ahead just isn't going to work.

But anyway, PlanetZ IS getting huge. Posts get burried away quicker than ever!

Much as I love this platform it does seem to be true that we're not getting the really leading edge stuff you can find elsewhere. The new synths are still just the ADSR standard signal path VA / FM design. My personal gripe is having no direct audio export from Pulsar - now a standard feature elsewhere. Other discussions have talked about the lack of granular abilities, the "closed shop" of the ModV2 and poor MIDI specs.

Against that CW seems to be doing a lot of development work lately and 3.1 is imminent...

And who can argue with the sweet, sweet sound ?

I suppose in a way it isn't crucial to me as I'm a user of both the Pulsar platform and the VST platform so I can always profit from the creativity of VST developers.

However, it does seem to be a bit of a shame.

On the other hand, I'm not going to complain too much because I haven't got one Zarg synth and they look pretty impressive. Hmmmmmmm! To buy or not to buy!

Funny, just do not believe it. Anyway, from what I know about Carbon and its four bindings (group4), that guy is just not possible. Also nice shadows, right?

I think I agree with Kensuguro about a totally democratic platform with the possibility of developing some original atoms and whatever piece of software is required. Of course I can understand the attitude of cw because they've surely invested huge amounts of energy to get all their stuff going, but... If cw doesn't really open their platform, then I believe that those who will do it will win in the end... It's like if the government decided that a certain list of foods that they choose would be grown sold and nothing else. It couldn't last because people will want to choose what they want to eat... Since music is our food, we want to eat whatever can be grown on our soil that we like, and so is it with devices... In the end, those who will permit everyone who wish to create their own plug-ins will win the Hearts of the crowd and I hope that cw sees that clearly, because I like their direction.
There could be certain regulating structures to guide the development, but it has to be totally democratic in the end, and nothing less!!
