I can load 5, but it takes a retry.
I have put Pulsar1 in PCI slot1 and given it high priority in BIOS.
winXP detects Pulsar1 on IRQ5

b.t.w.
In my MB manual, I get a priority list. But I don't know wich way to read it:

System timer on IRQ 0 has priority 1
Does that mean FIRST priority or LOWEST priority?

The Pulsar1 is very close to its PCI limit, when I load the 5th MV. Can that be the reason for the PCI-capacity-limmit? I mean: If I but a Luna2 as an add-on, will that make me load more MVs, or will I be stuck with 5 with a retry?

Ofcoarse, I will never make a project with MVs taking such huge %age of the DSPs, but from, what other people write, this is a very bad result for a tusl2-c. Today I bought the MB and CPU. It replaces a Duron 800MHz on a ECS k7s5a. I did not do it for power, I did it for bandwith, and so far, I feel, I got very little for my money :sad:

I don´t know how to help you, but I would never put any soundcard directly next to the graphics... I have my Pulsar2 in slot3 and the Powerpulsar in slot5, and as you probalbly already read, I get 12 of 13 stereo-MV´s with the bios´ "out-of-the-box"-settings on the same MoBo.
Both cards share IRQ9, which is also used by my Adaptec 29160 SCSI card in slot1.
No crashes, no PCI-overflow-errors at all since my upgrade to the TUSL2-C.

Thanks for your reply JoeKa

What OS are you running? I am on XP pro without ACPI. Did you make any tweaks?

I use 98SE, and I optimized the OS with just some basic tweakings, nothing complicated.

I'd better warn you. this post gets quite sentimental further down, and contains unfiltered realtime emotions. So, if you are just not in the mood for that, then stop here.

So, maybe that is it. Pulsar is not ready for XP yet? And I just started to like the OS :sigh:

Well, for now, I have as much bandwith, as I have DSPs, so I think, I will stick to XP and just dump my dream of getting an extra card.

So, now, I just need some better outboard gear, so I can raise my s/n ration above 50dB, and I need a way to make Pulsar1 slave to spdif, while not only in startup project.

If someone is cursed in the world of audio recording, it must be me....

What? I have been fiddeling around with Pulsar, while writing this. And I made this crazy test, to load my BackgroundProject (earlyer mentioned as start project), while in OS mode (I found it in my *resent* list). It is hooked up EXACTLY the same way, as my NewProject, but I get the spdif in now? I do not get it?

I now saved my BackgroundProject as my DefaultProject (NewProject), and when I reloaded Pulsar1, I had signal on the spdif source.

This is unbelievable :grin: My conclusion must be, something like, to make Pulsar1 learn to slave to spdif, it needs to have spdif wired in the BackgroundProject (why did I not think of this earlier?). And Pulsar in OS mode will not learn to slave to spdif, before Pulsar in Background mode has learned it.

To all of you, this was maybe to simple to even think of, but I am only just starting to learn. I have had this Card for over 2 years now, and I bought it with my very first PC (based on the satanic Apollo133). I tried many times, but I was allways misscouraged be the many problems. And I somehow felt, I could not ask anyone, because I felt, it was meaning less. I very soon learned, that most any salesman, I got in contact with, blamed the gear, I got from another shop - or they did not know. And I did not have the knowledge. And I allways felt stupid.

I am actually a bit touched now - no, not "a bit" - quite a lot actually. I got tears in my eyes. Tears over all the shit I experienced with my (to me very expensive) gear. All, that made me not do, what I wanted to do (my throat hurts now, as more tears are pressing to get out) - all, that made me become a musical zombie - never getting anything done anymore. But I have a feeling, it is changing now. I hope it is, though hope is a bit hard after all this hopelessness. It is strong to me. I must be strong. I must take, what I just got, and bring it further.

It is true, this is a great forum, and I am very thankfull, I found a place, where I do not feel, I am considdered stupid, only because I do not know some things.

Immanuel - with hope, relief and tears.

Join the club, welcom to all the other stupids, we're in tears too on a regulary base! :lol:
Keep on going, with or without tears :wink:

It is possible with only 4DSPs, that you would get only 4-5 masterVerbs - also possible that your machine could use a little optimization still. Remember, more DSPs give more masterVerbs IF you have the PCI - and on the TUSL2-C (i815EP revB) chipset, you definitely have a lot more PCI left! Also, remember that "make 2" cards (ie: all current Creamware cards except Pulsar1 and SCOPE1) have a more efficient PCI connection - and adding a 'make 2' card (Luna2/Pulsar2/Pulsar2XTC/SCOPE2/etc) will allow the software to communicate over the PCI bus just via that new card. So a Luna2 would not only give more I/O, DSP, and ULLI, but (slightly) less PCI problems as well. If properly setup.

But I totally understand where you come from on setting up your gear. Feel free to ask us for help!

Just for general info: I get the same PCI performance under WinSE/ME/XP, and same PCI with XP under Standard or ACPI (with a reseved IRQ for the CW card) - on i815 and i850 chipsets at least.

to immanuel:

I understand what your are writung; I experience the same; still I love music and today I simply forgot all the Pulsar-Tweaking-Shit and just played my alto-sax to a fine record by the african artist lokna kanza; I was really happy during the session, because I still feel the adventure of just improvising;

what I mean:

when the machine doesn´t work as you like take your time off and go back to the basics, doing music or learning your instrument; after a few weeks you will feel different; and maybe in the meantime you have read some interesting posts which give you ideas to succesfully setup your system

to subhuman;

do you think that registering my pulsar-software (pulsar I) on the luna II will maybe help concerning problems which are related to pci-master-overflow ?

I just did some testing on my system. I have a CUSL2 and 11 DSP chips. The first two times I got 5 masterverbs without a warning and the 3rd time I got 13. It seems random for me how many you can use. I've noticed sometimes I get warnings when I'm only using 50% of the DSP load.
