I go to the IDE/ATA controllers in device manager, it is set to DMA if awailable, but current mode is PIO. I just copied 2,5GB - and it took ages.

Did you install the <a href=
http://www.sis.com/support/driver/index.htm>drivers</a> for your board? Maybe updating IDE driver enables DMA for you.

Hi again
I am sorry, that this ended out in a parallel discussion. As stated in the other thread I found this site
http://forum.ocworkbench.com/ocwbcgi/ul ... 4&t=002018, wich explains, that I had to run siside to be able to use DMA under winXP.
Boy, does that make a difference - I just recopied those 2,5GB, and now it was faster, and I could open Opera quicker than before while doing the copy. I was somehow of the impression, that winXP would find about turning on DMA by itself.

It does on all i8xx intel boards and AMD76x boards. And I think even VIA boards...
