A friend of mine has a emu e-6400, and it seems to work really fine...
But I use sts sampler and it works really fine too!
Why do you want to go with hardware?

No no no, the original request was for a SMAPLER ! This - as everyone knows - is an effects processor which adds the sound of a smacking wet fish to any wav file.
I recommend the CodPiece Ultra Smapler.

very attentive humour.
to the poster of this thread (can't get the name to pass my lips

):
if you go for E-mu, well you can't do much wrong, i guess. they're pricey, but very good. i have my doubts about the latest akai stuff (5000/6000), but the s3000 is a real winner and not that expensive at all. other goodies are the yamaha4000/5000 series models. maybe the least expensive.
why not going for one of the cheaper models? do all your editing on your computer...
sorry, i was thinking what I should do, but i would only use the sampler in a live situation to output things i made at home with pulsar, so i need nothing fancy.
i think, if i had the money, i'd go for the yamaha A4000 with extra outputs.
