Hey everyone,

am I the only one to notice this....

when I read the press release from namm...I thought cool....the new 3.1 software is going to be a unified package between the cards and live bar is a new kind of control panel, but then read it again. Is live bar supposed to be some sort of truly integrated xtc mode?
The biggest problem with xtc is the latency and losing the flexibility/routing of the the pulsar environment. From creamware description, it would seem live bar is some sort of xtc mode with no latency and all the flexibility of pulsar system. here's a quote...

"It is also possible to integrate external studio equipment live into the audio sequencer. For example, you can route a microphone through the SCOPE DSP effects in realtime, or you can send audio tracks from your recording software out to an external 19" effects rack for processing and back again – likewise in realtime."

I thought this kind of thing was impossible due to latency issues?

any comments...

The live bar is just a new way of doing your module routing without going to the big blue creamware window. It doesn't have anything to do with the XTC mode. Wath's different about XTC in this release is that it will be an integral part of the platform. This means that even Luna users will be able to use it now.

About the quote: This can be done right now. It's what the CreamWare cards are all about. Zero latency routing and processing. Off course, if you use it in XTC mode, you get extra latency because of the VST interface. You have to work in native mode to get the Zero latency and the all the routing flexibility these cards have to offer.

I understand what you're saying....

maybe I misinterpreted the press release. I
understand about zero latency in the pulsar environment. I use it all the time for
routing audio to my outboard gear and back
in realtime...one of the best things about
pulsar. If you look at the press release, creamware refers routing from your "audio
sequencer" to external effects. To me that's sounds like logic or cubase. They made it sound like this is new feature brought about
by live bar.

I know is this probably impossible and I when
I think about now..it's probably just wishful thinking on my part.

thanks again

Still, if you use the ASIO drivers, you can easily do routing from Logic or Cubase to your CreamWare card and back again with very low latency. Better than if you use VST. You could route a channel from Logic -> ASIO channel -> digital output(spdif, AES-EBU, ADAT, depending on your I/O plate...) -> external effect processor -> your card's digital input -> ASIO channel -> Logic. This entire signal path could have a latency as low as 4ms, excluding the inherent latency of your external gear.

While this is not exactly a 0ms latency, it is extremely workable. I mean, you can hardly find any other pro-audio gear that can do all that as fast as this. Even if you would use a digital mixer with all digital external effect processors, you would have a very hard time getting a latency this low.

What's truly amazing is that all internal routing and processing of the Creamware cards are done at 0ms latency.
