Hi all,

When I'm using ASIO drivers in VST5.1, I can't do anything impacting video (like openning a menu) without disturbing the audio stream... I've tried all the usual tweaks (expect tweak BIOS as it doesn't wotk on XP) with no success, What can I do???

What is this about? PCI bandwitch? I can't beleive the PCI buss is full, it occurs even on very light project/song...

Pulsar I, software version 3.01b
Windows XP Pro, very clean install.
ATI Rage 8Mo
512Mo Crucial DDR Ram
Abit KG7
Thunderbird 1.4GHz
Cubase VST 5.1R1 using ASIO driver at 25ms

You have an 8meg ATI card - this is (at least part of) the problem. What resolution/refresh/color depth are you running at? Is the card PCI or AGP?

Also you are running WinXP - Standard or ACPI mode?

Is your Pulsar card sharing an IRQ with anything else? If it is, this will cause problems.

Also you need to be sure you have DMA enabled on your harddisks or you'll get this, but I think XP should take care of this part now, double check it.

I'm running at 1024*768, 16 bits, 60Hz, AGP card, Standard PC HAL, no IRQ sharing, DMA enabled. In a few words: all the usual tweaks are done...
There is only one thing strange on my PC, I always have 3 standard monitor drivers... If I uninstall two of them, there are back on the next boot. But I don't think this is an issue.
I was thinking about changing my video card, do you really think this would change something? I don't want to spend for nothing...

60Hz? I hope you're running an LCD, because on a CRT/tube monitor, that would give me a migraine in a very short period of time. At worst, a new proper video card like a Matrox G450 will give you 1024x768x32bit with 85hz refresh rate (provided your monitor supports that), which would (at least to my eyes) make a huge difference.

Also - you using any USB? I hope you've turned off System Restore (at least while working with audio) as well. There is a TON OF STUFF in WinXP that you need to take out, a clean install of XP has lots of background services.

Creamware support suggested me to upgrade my video card, 8 Mo is supposed not to be anought for XP... I'll try that.
As I said, I've done all the possible tweaking of XP without any change.
I'll keep you informed if you're interested.

any results on this test? Had this same error while working with a thunderbird 1gig on an A7V133, then upgraded to an athlon xp and the problem seems to be much less frequent... the video benchmark has improved quite a bit but I still get the error when I toggle between the luna project screen and logic audio's while playing a song. does changing the video card improved things?
