I started playing with the Reaktor recently. I like the idea, but the sounds are, imho not as good as true harware synths. It's also quite slow. I'm wondering how does Modular 2 compare to Reaktor in terms of sounds quality, speed, capabilities?

Finally, can Pulsar's DSP be used to speed up Reaktor?

Start <a href=http://www.planetz.com/forums/viewtopic ... =7>here</a> for some subjective comments And no, Pulsar's DSPs are for running DSP algorithms, not VST plugins (although you can now run Pulsar DSP algorithms as VST plugins with XTC mode). Although you may find it "speeding up reaktor" by it's excellent sounding Modular2 -- you might find yourself using that more often than Reaktor after you get into it.

when you can compare Modular 2 wins hands down.
but Reaktor has some features not seen in Mod2.
in terms of operating - Reaktor is "deep_under_the_hood" type of fun. building something from scratch takes will, time and knowledge. this aplies also for Modular but things like patching 8 oscillators into 2 filters you can do in split seconds.
one looks and operates like set of LEGO blocks and other faithfully resembles real modular system (am i right Algorythm?)
for both you can get bunch of great premade instruments so you don't have to get your hands dirty.

I think both programs have 'their' own sound, but both can sound extremely fat, it's just a matter of programming...

Although, to my opinion, the Pulsar Modular sounds rounder, fuller, sweeter and smoother but more 'digital'.
But with Reaktor, I come easier to a sound that's dirtier, and maybe more analogue...

But this is my opinion, I am sure there will be lots of people who don't agree with me, and another lot who do.

Please mind you that in different studio situations, the sound of the programs can of course respond differently...

yeah, you are right
but LEGO's look better than Reaktor. , Modular 2 looks better than a Moog Mod, but a Moog sure *feels* better
