Fan Noise - but only sometimes (?)

Post by dante »

Nothing to do with Music - this is about my Asus i7-8700 based office Tower. Sometimes when I turn it on the fan is bit noisy for maybe half an hour, maybe longer. But if I tell it to sleep sometimes it will still be noisy or sometimes not. Or sometimes if its noisy and I shutdown then restart straight after it will be totally silent.

Any ideas ? Or would it need a new fan ? Do I need to fiddle about in BIOS ?

Fan noise - bearing issue? imbalanced/dirty blades/fins?
Suspect extra work for fan equals extra current to drive it equals more heat equals need for more airflow etc

Fans seem tricky to repair/balance
A new fan protects against possible failure/damage to more priceless components?

try cleaning it with some compressed air. if that doesn't work, get another.

This is why I like my noisy ass Supermicro rack fans.
They’re very loud, so when it gets quiet I know I need a new replacement fan….
