DAW builders were not impressed with Ryzen.
Synths from u-He see things differently.

Check u-He @ KVR.

No need for a diva if you have a dm12

It's great to see more competition for Intel again, especially since computers progress in power-increase has stalled a little. Hopefully intel will now be motivated to bring even more powerfull computers at a even cheaper price. But the great thing about owning SCOPE is that more powerfull computers is not necessarily needed (at least not for me), but it is good to have more power and better pricing for the industry and market and I definitely prefer it when ever I do upgrade my computer system.

We definitely need AMD to bounce back and truly compete. Intel's latest Kaby Lake offering is at 4.2GHZ wich is a little speed increase with a really good overall architecture but I learned it takes a long time for the power of computers to increase in a HUGE way. One has to wait more than 5 years (probably closer to 10) to upgrade so that all the little speed bumps and other architectural changes add up to something special; rarely is there a giant leap in power (I think the first generation i7's was the last giant leap in processing-power (its low-latency performance increase) that was not core-stacking/hyperthreading substitute-power). My last upgrade was in January of 2009 so it will be almost 10 years for me and I'm sure i'll be pleasantly surprised when I do finally upgrade. My XITE-1 has allowed me to take my slow time upgrading wich is great since I prefer MAJOR mind-blowing improvements each upgrade not small speed bumps.

I doubt i'll go with AMD my next upgrade but I will be keeping a eye on them, and anythings possible.

I went from win XP 32 to Win 7 64, and from a small machine with an old dual core with 4GB of RAM to a big modern machine with an i7 quad and 16GB of fast RAM, and the jump was gigantic for me, like the one you expect to have when upgrading. I upgraded almost exactly after 10 years. My new system is amazing for audio editing, DAW compositions and even video editing too, which I do all the time. Before, I would spend several hours to make a video of around 20 minutes. I can do a 15 or 20 minutes video today in a much shorter period of time, and the rendering is also done in about 10 to 15 minutes. I would hardly use more power than what I have today, except for RAM, I would gladly accept going from 16 to 32GB, because this would allow for even more flexibility for projects with many big Kontakt libraries, but other than that, it is rather perfect now.

Some friends related to computers and technology and some people related to electronic engineering told me some companies already have totally new solutions for CPUs which would entirely revolutionize the market. There are, it seems, sort of a few “secret weapons” in terms of power that would go well beyond what we have today even with the biggest machines. The problem is that we would need to upgrade in every sense, because this would be a different kind of computer and so, with a different technology to interconnect devices in between.

I tend to believe this is true, that new amazing technology is already there, waiting to be launched at the market. But there are so many implications in giving us new, powerful technology, that it is not a simple move, but I think we are not far away from new, hybrid prototypes to be presented to the public at any moment.

Ryzen getting some attention over at reasonTalk. https://forum.reasontalk.com/viewtopic. ... &t=7499108

Ill wait to see Intels market response, then go for something with 6 or 8 cores.

No need for Diva if you have Solaris either.
But sometimes I need multiple synths and Zebra2 HZ/Diva can use a single core.
Diva can use multicore but I prefer isolating Cores.
On the Ryzen 5 you get 6 Cores.
I like having 4 Cores for apps that use Multicore support.
Then 2 x u-He synths that cannot gag a core with my current presets.

Over at the reasontalk CPU Stress Test thread https://forum.reasontalk.com/viewtopic. ... &start=200

On my i7-4790 I get 0:44 seconds playback on the stress song ( 4 cores )

The Ryzen 1700X gets 1:20 (8 cores)

But the I7 5820k gets 1:12 ( 6 cores)

Something tells me we won't match the XITE power until there's an 18 core version ;)

Then I/O latency will suck.

 Yeah... so it will never happen, we better stay with Scope Systems, and let the PC be its servant :P

http://www.eteknix.com/amd-ryzen-ccx-in ... ry-speeds/

This is an interesting discovery.
I've always liked the way cache helps with audio chores.
Seems the faster the DDR4 is, the faster Ryzens cache becomes.
This means the cheap ass little Ryzen 5 Quad Core 150 USD, gets all 16MBs of cache the high end Ryzen 8 Cores get.

This little sucker is already super low TDP/Watts.
Overclocked it by 25mhz increments to optimize project requirements.
Store the profile in the BIOS.

Got enough PCs and spare parts to last through Windows 15.
But this freaky CPU has me excited.

That Chris Hein solo violin looks and sounds great. Its the only thing I'm missing in reason is a decent solo violin, especially to plug into an Amp for a couple of Jon Luc Ponty type tracks I have.

How do you find it / use it ?

To bow as fast as Jean Luc you'll need Leap Motion.
But I got his Mahavishnu sound down.
Use SSB Modulator and HiFi Booms LPF High Rez Filter inside a BCM FX Module.
There are double bowing articulations but they just don't work as well as Leap Motion.
I just trill 2 fingers sideways above the sensors.
Bend with an Expression Pedal, another Expression Pedal does Filter Wah-Wah.

I bought this for that purpose, although it does do this pretty good.

My needs are a bit more modest - more his slightly more moderate solo album style post Mahanishnu etc. just a decent sample set that sounds great across full spectral range. Reason has StringWERK from e-Instruments but that only does Ensemble and looks like an old school reworked Kontakt UI. :(

You'd prolly like CHSV.

All of his instruments are so in your face.
Something he learned doing Brass most likely.
I cover Sections like EWF and Tower of Power really well using CH Horns.
Bring in Solo or Section Saxes from NI Session Pro since their reeds are good.
Their Brass has no balls...

Same but not for that reason - that's just a load test as every chip has its breaking point. I'm more to see how Intel answers the challenge.

With stuff like the Viking 2 RE (a $69 instabuy if ever there was one) being released https://youtu.be/KZufbH7fZQc I have a feeling I'm gonna need 6 cores at some stage (Audio Rate Modulation, modular routing, advanced DSP etc).

For now I would too.
What you're seeing in the Scan Audio clip is FMA3 causing issues.
It's a Haswell virtualization process I believe and should an easy firmware fix.

But Urs from u-He loads Diva on the AMD and says it kicks serious booty.
That was using Reaper though as a host for multi core synth tests.
Fat Cat Studio says the same thing as Scan Audio...not yet.

But unless your using tons of VST FX as the DAWBench tests do you're safe.

By this fall these CPUs should be running perfectly well.

The reason AMD is going to be great is the sheer number of chipsets and motherboard options you can buy.
How many of us use a PCI-e 16x Times 3 motherboard yet use iGPUs and 500 watt PSUs?

I'd love to have my PCI-e 1x as the only thing on the PCI Bus without excessive chips and slots acting as watering holes for OS permissions.

A 1 x pci-e 16x and 1 x pci-e 1x with NVMe for OS is a fast lean design.
Probably use the less featured B350 instead of X370.

But yes. Stay away until this summer/fall.

But you have to admit you want an 8 Core AMD for 499 USD.
Tons of synths, etc.
