Fun with robots

This afternoon I've been mucking around with the drum-playing system that my friend Robbie Avenaim has devised. We're planning a duo groove thing with 4 kick robot kit, a bunch of Scope stuff and Rob and I playing live drumkit, bass & brass.

Just getting used to what the machines can do with a smaller setup - this kick is played from both sides, snare, hat and 2 toms. Evidently the kick servos are used in airline windshield wipers. Specced up!

Yeah! Chops are superseded! Have to dazzle them robots with feel :)

These buggers actually beat fast enough to get some drone pitch :o

Ridiculously fast, Ken.

It's an experimental rig, Arduino-based. Mount/beater/motor design will need a little work for consistent accurate midi translation.

The fun thing will be to play live along with this sick dawg :)

Yeah Faxi - many hardware issues - I've been playing with it for a few days, and am making lists :)

I wouldn't use it as a drummer per se - we wanted to use it to augment live drums and basses - I'm kinda hangin to get 16 kicks in surround around a crowd tho

Brilliant ! I love machines ! Your drum playing system opens a wide range of possibilities, especially for live performances. I guess it works with midi and I already imagine what you could do with some breath controler like that one : http://tecontrol.se/products/usb-midi-b ... controller ! Fantastic ! That pleases me so much !
You certainly already know that marble music machine... : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvUU8joBb1Q
A totally different concept but still a machine.. :)

Is Robbie Avenaim the builder of your system with airline windshield wipers and Arduino ? Very smart and brilliant ! Your system blends my electronic music passion with my professionnal work (automatic industrial machine building/programming/reparation). I'm a bit jealous ! :P
