A message in my Win 7/64 open up just few minutes ago. M$ offers me to upgrade to Win 10 for free.
I believe nothing is for free these days.

So I thought I better ask her. Are you got this offer as well and what you think about it ?

there's no point in having the Scope computer for browsing the internet, but if that and games are the true priority, then go ahead. enjoy messing with the computer.

it usually means its beta version and its using users as the beta testers saves having to pay workers for it as customers are soon to complain making it easier for diagnostic purposes

and maybe old bill is sorting out customers for making them buy new versio after new version

This is about poor roll out of windows 8. MS never explained the user interface, there's no immediate help or understanding to the end user. So give Win10 away, and maybe they can boost user confidence, and sales.

so the little flag & offer is now pinned to my taskbar, with no option to unpin it and delete the offer! How do I get rid of it, because I'm staying with Windows 7?

You can uninstall the KB3035583 update from the Windows update panel.

The update installs a bunch of stuff to a new folder: System32/GWX

This contains config.xml, a 'roadmap of marketing nags', which details the sequence of 'Windows 10 upgrade offers' that M$ will use to ...er... 'entice' people to upgrade to W10.

Exactly. I paid good money for Win 7 ( I bought the Ultimate)

The other versions only support 16GB RAM max (I think?), so in case I want more RAM in the future, I'll be ready.

I uninstalled that annoying icon, but now I'm getting dropouts in Sonar. Didn't happen before. I wonder if Windows installed some other junk as well...

I don't think that specific update has any bearing on performance. Has anything else changed in your system?

I checked my update list today and sure enough KB3035583 was in the list.

I followed the 'More information' link and this is what the M$ website had to say about it:

"Update enables additional capabilities for Windows Update notifications in Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 SP1"

Needless to say I'm unchecking that box before updating my system...

Hmm, I rebooted the computer and I think that's it. I will check...
