I have'nt tried it myself but i know of one who runs that setup and it runs really well.

I'm not sure if he runs DAE and ASIO at the same time or just run the Pulsar as any synth module via midi and ADAT.

There should'nt be problems with that setup as long as you dave some PCI bandwidth for Protools.

The PCI bandwith record was set by a AGP G4 (this was almost 2 years ago, things might have changed)

Well. I'm convinced that the memory onboard the MIX24 boards make the use of PCI less important. they are only controlled graphicly by Logic/Digital perf./ProTools . Ok I'll let you guys know how the experiment went! Ciao!

"The PCI bandwith record was set by a AGP G4"
????? Are you sure ?
I have a 1 year old G4 with AGP and it is nowhere near the PC:s in PCI bandwidth.
I wish this was the case but it is'nt for me unfortunatly.

I was in a digidesign seminarium... I got the info from the tech ppl.

Personally since I have both platforms I'm able to do comparisons. They have the same PCI bridge as a PC. The mac let's me use more plugins though  ehhe

If you can aford PT Mix why bother to put MixFarm cards and Pulsar in one machine? Isn't it simplier to have 2 Macs? The ADAT bridge would be a nice addition and a useful link (connection (!)) between the two quick silver beauties. If you use the Pulsar ProMixer you should have at least 2 monitors (to take full advantage) and ProTools requires also 1 or 2 of them...

As the owner of a setup similar to what you are describing (G4 PT Mix cubed w/2 monitors linked to Pulsar PC w/2 monitors via ADAT Bridge) the answer is software and flexibility. Having the Mac for the PT rig is the most elegant and flexible mixing platform available IMHO. Connecting to the PC with Pulsar on board via the ADAT bridge ensures that both platforms stregnths are covered. All of the PC software (not to mention familiarity) that I have amassed doesn't have to go out the window with this setup. Having both is amazingly flexible. IMHO, at $3k a pop, the mixfarm cards are better left on their own (PT does have PCI bandwidth problems also - read some of the numerous threads about this at the Digi User's Conference). If you are thinking about a setup like this and can swing it, it is amazing. I have no more excuses anymore for music not turning out like I hear it in my head (other than being lazy).

what is your protools system and about how many plugins(lets say waves ren 4band eqs and comp/lim)can u run, if you are using protools strickly 4 live inputs.(use your pc/pulsar setup + software to make music and your mac/protools setup as a live input mixer with no recorded tracks.)
