Figured as much, that there would be pre XP problems.

Run SCOPE in Administrator mode should fix the missing file issue.

No luck.
Is Scope actually going to be certified for Windows 8.1, since I'd hate to take a step backwards in this regard.
I get the feeling from using this that the developers only change when forced and are never on the front foot when it comes to OS support.

unless you are using 64bit windows, the STS will work in win8.
running Scope as administrator is not the same as using an administrator user account. it involves access to system resources like ram, which a sampler needs. this is part of win7 and win8 security.
with Scope closed, right click on the Scope icon and choose "run as administrator". when the warning window opens asking if it's ok the allow Scope to make changes to the system, answer "yes". Scope should always be run in administrator mode.

Thank you for that reply.
So because I choose to use a 64 bit system, I am effectively disenfranchised in regard to using a Sampler in Scope.
Next question:
will there be an update/fix to address this problem?

it's not broken!
64bit windows wasn't even invented when the STS was designed. it shouldn't work. will STS be rebuilt from scratch? probably. eventually. i'll bet that 64bit has absolutely no benefit to you, but this has been discussed ad nauseum here. if your work is almost exclusively about loading up a boatload of the biggest Kontact libraries all at the same time, then you need 64bit windows for sure. everything else, incluiding Cubase and other vsts will work better in 32bit.

Hello GaryB,
Now that I have a working system, you should know that I don't care whether you work for Sonic Core or not and that making assumptions about what I use or don't is a dangerous act.
I say this as a warning to you because:
a) you don't know
and
b) it is negative in the extreme
so please refrain from making such assumptions in future because I have no qualms about calling people out over what should be a reasonable discussion.
The sampler(s) used in Scope are out-of-date and should be fixed. Now as to whether they are broken or not, this is beside the point and is technically moot.
Therefore, as a customer (which you are not) I expect more so arguing with a customer about what is or isn't broken, when obviously something doesn't work on a given system and then turning around and saying that their computer is overkill; when you don't even know what the person does is highly offensive and will only cause myself at least to argue back.
Please put in a a feedback request about this issue since I know it would be a rare feat for you and Sonic Core to actually do some work in this regard and take on board positive feedback.
P.S. About 32 bit vs 64 bit, I think you need to actually try it to know.

Advise is for free, what you do with it is up to you.
No need to insult the one who's giving you advise and gives the context of technology.
Concerning samplers, native offers better alternatives.
Not a big deal, you can't have it all. I use Battery.
Like Garyb says, 64bit is pointless unless you are using huge libraries (or are a develloper).

if you have Kontact, you surely don't need the STS, although the STS has it's better qualities.
if you don't have Kontact, you don't need 64bit, i HAVE tried it. Cubase is a 32bit app, even the 64bit version.
yes, bedroom guys....
i LOVE bedroom guys, escept when they don't know jack shit about audio, audio production, or computers, but then talk to me like i am the ignorant one. i have no problem with answering questions OR sitting back and letting you do as you wish.
the product works the way that it does, which for me(yes! i am a user FIRST and i have music on the radio and being sold) is GREAT! for me, it's the best possible solution. for you? maybe, maybe not. it doesn't have to please everyone.
you don't know what it might take to redo 18 year old samplers, but even without the samplers, you have your money's worth. if that doesn't work for you, i understand, shut up and use what you have or sell it, but don't flame me because you don't know how audio gear works. i'm only spending my free time trying to help you. it's not up to me to read YOUR documentation or do YOUR homework.
you are showing your own rear when you rant about Scope not working in windows8. there are plenty of people who have never had an issue from day one. the STS samplers did not work in Vista or win7 64bit either. i expect them to be rebuilt from scratch eventually, but maybe they'll be dropped altogether. there are more than enough native samplers out there. for many things, dsps are superior to native, but for samplers, not so much. again, before you panic, since there are many sample oscs and the like(some that work in 64bit), redoing the samplers might make sense in any case.

People, please check Emotives post record. He has been asking "these" kind of questions and responded to honest kind help in the same "better knowing" manner for 2 years now. He should know more about Scope by now, than seems to be the case.
Emotive are a troll!
Maybe even the troll of PlanetZ...
