USb Soundcard to integrate into scope system?

Hi all,
does anyone know a usb soundcard that allows for routing its inputs directly into Scope Asio? My Tascam US-122 doesn't seem to have that option, and I'm really looking for a cheapish way to have two more stereo inputs.
Thanks for any ideas,
Martin

This won't be ASIO, but you can have SCOPE make use of any wave device in your system.

Look in the Software I/O area I think...Wave Source and Wave Dest. After you add the device to your project, open it, and select the wave device you want to use :)

I think there were some issues with 64-bit wave drivers and scope, and maybe that was fixed. I'm not sure, but something to know about if you hear crackles.

Thanks JK, that would be okay, I guess, but again, for my US-122 I can't select any other device besides its own ASIO driver, so I'd love to hear from someone who says "I'm doing this with my xyz and the sound is just awesome" .

AFAIK, they are just the standard WDM drivers for Scope's hardware in Windows, rather than for accessing another manufacturer's sound card. There used to be Soundcard Dest and Source (if I remember correctly), which I used donkey's years ago, but I think they were decommissioned as they didn't work very well.

You could try using JACK for routing audio: http://jackaudio.org/

I use a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 - I've set it up so that spdif io goes to scope spdif io. Works great.

That what you want to achieve?

Yes, that's what I meant, Soundcard Source/Destination.

I have used that to connect to my Emu 1616m on a prior PC...I haven't used it on Win7 64bit, but I know it worked on 5.1 in windows XP x86.

Martin, is your Tascam US-122 a soundcard ?
If it is and you use it for watching video or listening to music with a simple player, you should be able to use it in Scope via the 'wave source' module in the Sofware I/Os Scope folder.

Did you already try that ?

My mobo has a simple soundblaster soundcard and it works perfectly in Scope. I allows you to listen and record every sounds that your computer plays in Scope.

Wow, quite a lot of ideas here - thanks all!

W_Ellis: If I don't find any other way, Jackaudio might do the trick (but do I really want another bit of audio routing software on my scope system?). "Soundcard Source" doesn't work so far (well, I get some very originally distorted sound, but that's it.)

Eanna: That's pretty much what I want to achieve, and I've been thinking of spdif as well - but I'm looking for something that's cheaper (second hand) than a Luna 24/96 box, so no Focusrite  .

JoPo: Tried that, so far no luck, although I'm wondering if I need to install another piece of Tascam software ... the US-122 (it's an external interface) shows up in the System Audio settings, but it doesn't seem to do wave.

Siriusbliss: Huh? I want the audio in scope, not the midi.

I'll try to reframe my question: I'm looking for something like the Audiotrak 44 or M-Audio Audiophile (is there a USB version?) that allows in its own driver software to select a scope asio destination - or a quality 4-channel analog-to-spdif converter ...

Your tascam soundcard sounds ONLY with asio software ?? And never with some web video ?? It's a bit strange for a soundcard ; yes, maybe there miss something.

drivers connect hardware to software.
a driver cannot connect hardware to hardware.

JoPo: It has ASIO and WDM drivers, but that doesn't help me - and again, it's an external interface, not a soundcard.

GaryB: You're right, of course, but I don't see why a driver shouldn't theoretically be able to route sound directly into Scope Asio which IS software - or am I missing something?

Ah well, it's probably the most sensible thing to start looking for a pre-loved Luna box again, apparently my alternative ideas are somewhat off ...

Thanks,
Martin

Scope ASIO is a driver. drivers won't talk to each other. a software app needs to be between the two drivers somehow and ASIO doesn't like to work that way. what's wrong with using analog or s/pdif connections?

Well, nothing wrong with spdif, I just don't have anything to connect it to; the problem with analog is that I don't have any spare inputs, hence the problem ... I need more analog inputs, I can't afford an A16Ultra and my Luna Box is gone  .

Gary, you have a way of pointing people into the right direction! I'll put my spare Luna into a second PC which is there anyway (waiting for a Korg Oasys PCI that may never come...) and route its analog in to its spdif out -> main rig. So obvious it hurts.
Still, should anyone know of a quality 4-in usb solution that can route into scope asio :o ...

I had a Lexicon iOnix u42s, four ins, two outs, and SPDIF I/O. Fabulous DBX preamps on it. Got it at a great price at the time, sold it on, its the one interface I wished I held onto a few times since I sold it..

If you do stumble upon a cheap version of the u42s or u82s, that might satisfy your requirements.

Wow, that sounds pretty good, perfect specs indeed. Thx, I'll keep my eyes open, could do with good preamps, although they still go for quite a bit on the Bay ...
