(I guess you mention VSTHost for it's better routing capabilities, it's quite smart in that sense)
on my current Scope system I have SAW-Studio as editing only app running with WDM drivers
VSTHost for FX processing is directly routed to the Scope mixer via Asio
Asio latency is set to 6ms at 48k and Scope channels are compensated with a simple delay set to 13.375 ms
Tracking is done in Scope via VDAT controlled by an Alesis BRC
I do all stuff realtime in Scope and what's captured on the virtual tapes is later cut by SAWStudio
if you want to do that in Cubase you might condsider a 2nd hand RME Hammerfall or so for VSTHost
and route into Scope via Adat physically (of course an external system would be just the same)

Hi Tom,
Thanks for that information.
I have a number of systems but one I will probably use more than the other audio only systems is Scope due to the synths (and maybe samplers, I use kontakt with an old Terratec library).
What I intend is to set up scope using the older software first, even if it means installing an older OS as I want to buy 5.1 so as to be compatible with what will inevitably come with v6 and to have compatibility with win7 for the future.
I've got a Saffire 26 i/o which I will connect via ADAT and use in SMUX mode, which will give me 8 analog i/os and a stereo digital out, as well as stereo analog I believe.
The 8 analog via SMUX will be used rarely for multitrack recording, but the stereo SPDIF will be used often with a TC Electronic BMC-2 as my main setup as I program MIDI in Cubase. As for the stereo analog, that will be for system sounds.
Currently I have a Roland UA-1G, which surprisingly allows WDM and ASIO signals to be mixed in a glitch free manner but under previous OS such as Vista, it was troublesome.
I will want to work in Scope environment, if it is possible to use the Terratec and Kontakt factory libraries, as those sounds are the most authentic I've found for programming songs otherwise I will stick with Cubase and use the ASIO driver.
Cheers
