How good are they?
In my ears they are good, but I haven't compared directly to another configuration, so I would be very interested in knowing
the difference in quality among 1.scope's pci cards, 2.xite, 3.A16, 4.ferofish, or other....

They are far superior to, say, a Focusrite Pro 40, which at the moment I use as a A/D converter on one ADAT input. The rear XLR inputs on Xite sound very good when I use them with high end outboard gear, and they actually allow for +4dB or more on input before clipping. The Xite will not get in your way of making good tracks, but I would like to A/B it against a lavry or Cranesong A/D and D/A.

the xite on board converters are very good, noise is difficult to be perceived even on the headphone.
The converters on pci cards are good too, still better than many of the middle range firewire cards available today.
If you don't need 16 AD/DA channels, you can invest in a good 2 channels AES/EBU converter, but it depends on what is your aim, because especially with the xite, there isn't so much difference.

Theres a brief mention re the A16 v Ferrofish converters here :

They both use AKM converters, but the Ferrofish uses a newer version.
