from a distance ... scope is still unbeaten

In my last posts anyone could read that I'm rather far away from scope looking for alternative workflow, soundsources & processing. You get the clearest view on things when you have some distance.
This weekend I was able to listen to the vst versions of softtubes amp simulations and compare them to scopes...
Oh, my god - I never thought they'd sound that different... & guess who is the CLEAR WINNER: Scope of course!!!!
Finally I'm able to use scope again. I now have some more space for my music & my daughter has her own room now. Nearly all of my time goes (of course) in to that "project" :-) (what a great project, she's so loveley) but I am able again to work on scope for some minutes per day and I spend a few minutes about thinking to continue the story with Xite. I just can't have a new laptop to handle Xite which holds me back. So I stay with Scopebpards and still love them and will spend more time with them.

Scope is still simply unbeaten!

way of life..

Really Enjoy your devices like FluLiq / Satteq w/ pitch, Tube XL, and many smaller EQs...

Thanks So Much.

I have a daughter on the way.
But anyhows. If you could afford an xite-1 (and hopefully the developers kit)
Surely you can afford a laptop to go with it and then make some cash back making some cool scope devices or unique audio solutions for the xite-1.
Yes scope is unbeaten for pure quality and flexibility.

Couldn't you benefit from this offer to spare for the laptop ?

The great offer is just on the limit what I could handle right now. But there are too many open questions left, to jump into cold water - hm, maybe it'll be warm, but you just cannot know right now. (That's of course the reason why it's so 'cheap' I know.) First point for me to help me just doing it without too much thinking would be: The concept should be clear, how developers will be able to sell their work. Will it still depend on SCs decision who is allowed to sell devices? Second point to make me say - yeah, that's it! - would be to be able to build devices for a cheap small DSP box independend from a computer. It's too much money for me right now without knowing such things. Some more answers to open questions are easily worth 1000€, before I jump on a train which does not bring me to the right place. So I'll wait & see what happens.

the SDK and a license to sell devices are not necessarily the same thing. selling devices is something to be negotiated seperately.

That's exactly my point. First buying and building, beeing still unsure if then being allowed to sell is a big risk for a hobby & fun - developer like me. I could still learn much, to make deeper & much better solutions, but I needed to know if I am able to grow while from the start being able to sell small things to make it worth investing in more knowhow which costs in first place a lot of time which will allways a good investment in my 'real' job as a teacher.
Of course I could say: I will get there, give me two or three years... but I think I'm at the point where it could start with small things after my first experiences with being an anarchic amateur. I learned so much, but think it won't be enough, to get in the small cricle of developers of choice from sc to be able to sell although I know there would be people who would love to see some good ideas like mine at a cheap price.

Surely they are not that difficult to deal with with regards to selling?
I would imagine you can just set up a shop and give them 50% on sales?
Ask this guy

I'd say it would in the short term, although things might change a bit if Open Scope takes off. But meanwhile you could get feedback from them based on say Flu_Liq without buying an XITE. I'd buy FLU_LIQ if it came in the shop between $50 - $100 retail.

More broadly about levels of SDK development from my interpretation of Ralf's comments on interview here :

http://www.hitfoundry.com/issue_13/sdk_mast.htm

The base SDK lets you build a few devices by drag / drop connect - much like Modular or Scope itself. And more recently, JUCE for extending the GUI elements in the upcoming Open Scope environment.

But there are 2 levels beyond this :

1) The ability to develop your own algorithms (requires a special agreement with S|C and C++ skillset/tools)
2) Selling in your own or thier shop (also by agreement with S|C).

S|C shop contains both devices developed just with base SDK, and also devices with custom algorithms.

Whether you can sell in S|C shop I guess depends on how impressed with the device they are in terms of sonic goodness, visual appeal and marketability. That third one is a bit tricky, as it might have to fill a 'gap' in thier range somehow. Its hard to come up with a great EQ when theres so many.

FLU_LIQ on the other hand is fairly unique, unique enough to at least send S|C a copy and get feedback. Even if they dont see a place in thier own shop they may encourage further development or allow sale in your own shop under license.

there is notthing to sign with the sdk v5, it's different from the sdk v4 where we have had to sign a paper and agree to not sell anything.
With v5 there are not restrictions, i don't see any, i think we can sell devices if we want to.

Hi Martin,

Glad to see you back! Enjoy Scope again, it's still fun :-)
Haven't had that much time to spend for Scope myself, my son's 18 month now and i recently moved my studio into a smaller place, have to build up everything from scratch...

Nevertheless, I jumped on the xite-1 train some time ago, it's not perfect, but it's getting there, sooooon :D

Cheers,
Roman

Not sure if this helps, as it's a US online store, but you can find a Lenovo laptop here for $334 US. This webstore has only limited time deals, but maybe you can also find that model somewhere else.

http://sellout.woot.com/offers/lenovo-t ... e-laptop-4

It has a 34mm ExpressCard slot.

I may do both.
Already have the laptop, but now considering resurrecting the PCI cards in a rack.

It will be good to be able to use Scope well into my retirement years :)

In a seperate 1U DAW with riser cards. That 1U pic is of a seperate TFT display/keyboard no ?

RKM = Rackmount Keyboard & Monitor.

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/serv ... index.html

Heres a nuther whole bunch (I prefer trackball to the crappy pads) eg with or without KVM :

http://www.rackmountsolutions.net/Rackm ... _Entry.asp

For open air gigs in Nevada, heres something military spec :

http://www.chassis-plans.com/industrial ... oards.html

It comes with a free 'range finding' ruler to zoom in on enemy DJ's and husslers. For example, this one survived the bunkers of Afganistan and Iraq so just might be able to withstand a few beers at badass cover gigs

or control it over your laptop and remote desktop.
With radmin the result is almost the same as working locally on the same pc, with ultravnc is acceptable.

I use radmin to control my older pci based scope.
