Hi,
after some trouble with my PC and Scope .. i was nerved .. so it was in total Sleep mode for
two yaers ( @ minimim )
my last try was to change the Motherboard to a GA-P43-ES3G.
It was a small sucess. The PC was very unstable.
So i will have a look now what i can do.
my hardware
GA-P43-ES3G
3x Pulsar2 Sfp 4.5
What should i use Win 7 or win XP ?
Are there any Tips and Tricks with BIOS settings and or windows Tweaks?
For example i remember in the past we have to set up Windows XP as Standard PC without ACPI. Disabeling USB LPT onbiard SOund ect.
Every Card should have an own IRQ...
Is there any Documentation with collected tips and tricks ?
thanks !

every card doesn't need it's own irq, but there are things that the card should not share with. it's best for the cards to have their own irqs or share with other cards. in a modern motherboard that's difficult.
i would NOT use standard pc. that's a win 98 trick. it's a good idea to disable unused motherboard devices if they won't be used.
you can use xp or win7, but you will need to purchase v5.1 for win7. v5.1 is optional for xp. both work very well. if your computer is unstable, you either set the machine up improperly or you have a piece of defective hardware somewhe in the machine.
yes, there are a few tweaks, here's the usual list. even though win7 is mentioned, everything but the power options apply to xp as well.
in the bios, disable all of these that you can find(even if the names are slightly different):
Intel EIST
Intel C State
C1E Support
Overspeed Protection
Hyperthreading
Execute Bit Support
Set Limit CPUID MaxVal to 3 (maybe not so important) Intel Virtual Tech
Intel VT-d Tech
then, please go to start\programs\accessories\system tools\system information\hardware resources\conflicts/sharing and tell me what, if anything, sharing an irq with the Scope card(the EXACT name). a screenshot would be helpful.
in control\panel\power options click on "change plan settings"and make sure that only the display is allowed to turn off, sllep should be "never". click on "change advanced power settings" and open the "PCI Epress" menu.turn "Link State Power Managemet" off. this will keep your cards from being disabled if you leave the computer unattended for a long period of time.
for best performance, i recommend that you press start and then right click on "Computer". choose "properties". on the left click on "Advanced System Settings". click on the advanced tab and then press the "settings" button in the "performance" section. put a check in the "adjust for best performance" box. this will eliminate all the fancy win7 graphics, but will leave considerable resources for your music instead.

it seems my board / ram makes some trouble.
Today i removed all pulsars... reinstalled with all bios settings you mentenoied.
The System crashes even without the pulsar/s and now it seems totally dead.
is there any 775 or uptodate motherboard what works with three PulsarII's
tnx.

just clean all the scope PCI contacts (even the NOW dirty PCI slots)
Scope are very sensible to oxidation in time... the symptoms are mainly random crashes, blue screen, bad DSP communication.

almost ALL 775 motherboards work. you just need to find out what is causing crashes. perhaps you've accidently changed ram settings or others in the bios. go back to default then reapply the suggested settings. if you still get crashes, try one stick of ram at a time. then try swapping out graphics cards, then check voltages on the power supply. you must be orderly about this, just floundering around wil cost money and waste time and only make you more frustrated and upset.
make sure that you have the latest bios, the gigabyte notherboard should work very well. if you check all of these things and it's still unstable, another motherboard would be worth trying.

I think there is something dead now.
First I got random freezes and resets, even without any Scope card.
Also during the fresh windows installation.
Now it wont boot. If i switch it on it switches off and on automaticly.
maybe the Powersuply is broken.
i will check.
If it is the Mainboard what do you think about the "Intel Classic DP43BF".
Also it seems that there is no i3 / i5 Mainboard with more then two PCI slots. ?!

there are socket 1156 and 1366 motherboards with three and even four slots. used is also an option.
yes, that intel board should work. i believe it may require 1.8vlt ram, just a heads up.

hmn today it boots again..
tryiing to install XP again..
but i think i hate this PC !
there must be a broken device. :/
i can get a DELL Precision 390 for cheap
Precision 390 [7] Core 2 Duo or Quad 800 or 1066 Intel 975 DDR2 Memory PCI Express
is the 975 chiset okay for scopes ?
it has 3 PCI slots. and from the work i know dell workstations are rock solid.
cheers.

freeze again.. !
maybe its a better idea to buy this used Prec 390 with 2.4ghz dualcore and 4gb ram.
as buying a mainboard + DDR3 ram for 100 euros. i think the DELL system will cost me at maximum the same
if the 975chipset is ok.

Win7 32
Scope 5.0
Ulli settings 3ms

without any modifications so far.

first, disable usb controller 27CA in the device manager.
disable parallel and serial ports, and built-in audio in the bios if you are not using those ports.
there are also these things i posted earlier:
in the bios, disable all of these that you can find(even if the names are slightly different):
Intel EIST
Intel C State
C1E Support
Overspeed Protection
Hyperthreading
Execute Bit Support
Set Limit CPUID MaxVal to 3 (maybe not so important) Intel Virtual Tech
Intel VT-d Tech
for win7, in control\panel\power options click on "change plan settings"and make sure that only the display is allowed to turn off, sllep should be "never". click on "change advanced power settings" and open the "PCI Epress" menu.turn "Link State Power Managemet" off. this will keep your cards from being disabled if you leave the computer unattended for a long period of time.
in 32bit win7 or in xp, go to the device manager, find the Scope card, right click on it and choose "properties". uncheck "reset board if idle".
for best performance, i recommend that you press start and then right click on "Computer". choose "properties". on the left click on "Advanced System Settings". click on the advanced tab and then press the "settings" button in the "performance" section. put a check in the "adjust for best performance" box. this will eliminate all the fancy os graphics, but will leave considerable resources for your music instead.

EDIT: front usb is not working.
is it a must to disable USB ? I love usb sticks and .. whats about dongles ?
so im a ableton user .. so i have no dongle .. but i have some usb devices. behringer BCF .. for example.
all other tweaks where done before.
and now 13 masterverbs.. 14th get overload.
btw.. my adat port is working very well with the "old" system i had vinyl crackels on all Adat CHs.

yes, keep that usb controller disabled. use a hub if you need more ports.

if i only disable the front usb 27CA is still present ..
so i must disable the usb function then usb front and back are disabled.
so i have now no usb at all..
maybe i should add a pcie usb 3 card ?

in the device manager, you can disable ONLY the one controller. it should take 60 seconds. there shouldn't be more than one port that dies, if any.

if this is ok ... i will try.
ok i have disabled
27CC and 27CA
front USB is working but if i unplug a usb stick .. scope is crashing.
this happens on all left USB ports.
seems to be fixed.. I disabled autorun.
now its ok. its a U3 Stick with the famous LounchPad.
edit: enabled 27CC again ... all ports acting in usb 1.0 mode.
now back to 2.0

I have one issue left:
i played a bit with modular and minimax.. .
and as my project was getting bigger and bigger and nearly 17DSps are used. With some Reverbs
and oter fxs and synths.
I get little pops and clicks if I change from sfp to ableton window or just by cklicking on other windows or move them around.
any idea ?
