I wanted to make an FM patch (for any fm synth) where the slap comes in only at high velocity, and the rest of the time the bass acts like a synth bass, and then sort of like a darker sound a low velocity. Basically a very velocity sensitive patch that I can use as an all rounder. I made it with live's operator synth.. I think it's fairly portable since the structure is super simple.

It's nice to have a bass that can support and also build up, and have enough bite to take center stage.

Tune to test drive the bass patch, kind of along the lines of the Intermetro series. I like the Intermetro series.. that style has a pretty wide strike zone, and I think the overall sound comes as a result of the wide mix of styles. It also features the base a lot, giving it melodic parts.

The synth pop part in the middle.. well, I had to give the 8 beat slap line a try.

The bass sound you have created sounds great by itself, but I don’t really like it for this song. I want a real bass there

Now, the song is BEAUTIFUL Ken, I really enjoyed it! It gets me into this magnificent mood when I close my eyes and feel a strong plunge into emotional concentration.

Well, what I would like to hear, as a bass player, again, is a real bass; I would particularly like a Spector kind of timbre behind the lines, that would match very well with the song

lol. Well, you're about as real as a bass can get in my book, and I think this tune is an awesome stylistic match for your play style.

Here's the tracks without the bass, and any bass unison parts and free of all master channel effects. The second chorus is completely blank for you to cook as you please.

BTW, one thing.. if there's anything, I hope you see that I'm particularly picky about my bass groove, and though it's definitely not like a real live bass, I hope a get your mark of approval for "above average" for a synth player in terms of groove / articulation and phrasing.

Really nice style of compostition and sounds Ken.
Naturally I like the syncopation and the clavinet-ish, and Synth stabs near the end are tight.

The middle trance - samba like sequence sort of stands out of the rest of the arrangement... but well, free creativity and thought. I tried to keep the percussion sounding "like samba" without being full on samba. Just the tip. lol.

It'd also be cool if you could send me the bass track as solo, so I can read the pulse off of your inspirations and change the composition accordingly. I know I can read from your material quite accurately, and you can probably read mine, so it'd be great to have a couple of back and forth. It'd be a great learning experience for me.

I truly enjoy reading a composer's thought process, mind state, emotional state from the resulting composition. It's quite rare that such things are even embedded into the composition, but you do it every time in a very frank and sincere way. It's a bit of a musical challenge for me to pick up on that, and match the arrangement to suite. So I'm looking forward to that. Don't mind fighting the current comping, I'll match your playing afterwards. Change the base groove, dynamics, etc. Just use the current arrangement as a chord progression guideline. I also don't mind if you changed the structure.

In the future, we should also do a purely emotional tune like your collapse of Europe. I really liked the 'emotions first' concept of the series. I feel a collaboration of that scale and raw-ness can bring something of great musical importance.

I would really love to build a group with you, man I wish I had the time to do it. I think we would enjoy like kids playing and composing together! I don’t care if you can play better or worse that this guy or the other guy, I don’t care as much about this as I care about the understanding and spirit you show in your words and in your "music", this is what most inspires me from other musicians, exactly that, the inner worlds of music, well beyond the technical side of it, which is also beautiful but not quite attractive to me as the "meaning" or "language" of music. Well, in fact, look at my motto in the forum: "Music, the most powerful language in the world, indeed!" Music is Art! That’s the answer or secret behind it.

Unfortunately from one side, and very fortunately for the other, I am somone full of tasks, huge responsibilities, works and challenges to solve in my life, so a band it’s something I cannot start. I know you are talking about this particular song and this surprising approach, that I find very interesting indeed, I mean, doing first the song, then recording it and then doing it again on top of the second performance, that’s truly interesting, and not about building a band, but this is something I have through several times because of these feelings we share.

Life, anyway, has many surprises, and who knows, perhaps we can finally do something together regardless one day in the future, I can't tell.
