I'm curious to know how it sounds compared to DAS Studer.
There is someone here who has the Studer to make a sound proof?
I find that the (free

) DAS Digital Analog Sound sounds really good as a ITB master finalizer.
Studer really worth it for "just" 350$ ?

FWIW I love UAD and really wish S|C and UAD would get bought out by Avid.
Imagine the support and developers who would have R & D budgets, etc.
The UAD stuff is very popular in my group for the engineering crowd. But I only hear better quality in their Reverbs, and even their expensive Neve Channels, and SSL Bus Compression stuff is easily matched by SpaceFs' FATs and Sat by Adern.
The DAS plug vrs. the Studer, which I assume is the Tape emulation plug has more varieties of coloring, as far as sounding like a Tape Deck, I can assure it doesn't.
UADs' developers can pose all they want with White Coats as if several Scientists are hard at work to bring you true tape emulation, but at the end of the day, I hear nothing from Scope or UAD that is anywhere near the Studer, Teac or MMC machines I have had the pleasure to use.
I can explain it even better.
The studio I get to work at has several various Otari, MMC, Studer machines and the Brotha's here are paying extra bucks to have their tracks mastered with Tape and Manley.
It is light years ahead of a single plug that is being sold as the Magical transformation of Native to Analog............
At the end of the day, once someone is using an mp3 and cool IEM style headphones, any gains are lost there anyways.
But I am quite sure the picture of the Tape deck gives comfort to any clients who might think they are getting a great deal by paying extra for " Tape Sound..."
Unconvincingly Yours,

neither uad studer or das tape plugin will give you the right distortion that you can get from tape.
THe uad has some really nice features, but to me, its really a "joker" plugin. If you need tape you use tape.
that being said, i really like UAD plugins. i have uad2 solo card and the 1176 sounds SO good! so does the emt 140 plate!!
BUT! where DAS shines is the top/hi freq end of the tape plugin.
It will add that hi freq smear that only tape does. PLay around with the bias settings and you have instant nice sounding hi freq content that i cant match on an eq..
I use the DAS plugin on pretty much anything from vocals to acustic guitars, drums etc.
Its one of my favorite scope plugins. for mixing i normally prefer UAD and variety of sound (MAN... his plugins are great and FREE! they beat waves etc imo.)
-but for synths i really like scope. I have fallen in love again with the modular, minimax and profit 5. Even the old b3 emulation sounds better than the emulation that comes with pro tools!!
So to sum up: the studer plugin is nice, but will in no way save your mixes. I actually think the DAS plugin will do a better job at that!(if such a plugin exists:) with its hyped high freq smear.
If you want ALL the characteristics of tape, i havent found any plugin. Get a real tape deck - you wont be dissapointed!
-i usally record drums digitally, edit them and then transfer them to the trusty OTARI mtr90 (tape) and back into Pro tools..instant drum joy!
But the good news is that you really dont need an expensive tapemachine.. i have gotten GREAT results with the fostex E2. Its a great sounding machine!
-Hope some of all the words help you out:)

Thanks, yep, I will try with a Philips N4510 Reel to Reel tape

It's not so famous like other brand and models but I've foud it almost new for a few bucks (less than UAD Studer

).
