Does anyone know if there were any Midex 8 drivers written for Scope or maybe X-ite?

Eric.

Well if Midex8 is anything like my Midex3 then the drivers relate to Cubase, not Scope, as it addresses MIDI via USB.

Yup. Midex is Steinborg child. A dead one. Hate to tell you but Midex is totally abandoned by steinberg two years ago. Ironically steinberg promoted this equipment as perfect companion for cubase and perfect midi timing. Which never worked in reality. You can check cubase.net forum. A hell lot of pissed people. Midex for a lot of people never worked properly and you don't have any kind of Vista or Win 7 driver support. And there is that sysex bug. All in all nice on paper but in reality you better buy something like Edirol UM-880. I have it and it is working like a charm. On win 7 yes.

So Midex is kind of steinberg "made for cubase" version of the Emagic AMT8 "made for logic" solution ...

Where is the Win 7 driver for my lovely AMT8 ?

Arf ! I need to emulate Win 98 SE then ...

:D

drivers connect hardware to software. there's no such thing as a driver to connect hardware. to get midex i/o to connect to the Scope environment you will need to go through either the sequencer or a midi "loopback" program.

Yes that is correct. However from what i know AMT8 is working far better then Midex.

Yes AMT8 is working quite good here ... but only under Win 98 SE but that's OK for me as I only use Logic 5.5 and Soundiver (yes I know I am not quite up to date).

AMT8 actually still works on OSX too (Logic installers will always update drivers for any old Emagic interfaces that it finds.)

From a cursory look at the marketplace it seems that (aside from m-audio who I've grown to dislike) midi interfaces for more than 1-2 i/o are available from ESI & MOTU. Anyone else know of more?

Other than ESI MU8 and MOTU MIDI Express interface there have not been so much 8x8 MIDI USB interface on the market:

- Edirol UM-880
- M-Audio Midisport 8x8
- Miditech MIDIPORT 8x8
- Steinberg Midex 8
- Emagic AMT8 et Unitor 8 MK II

Right but I'm noticing even the 4x4 interfaces are disappearing as well.

Maybe just because you do not need more than that to interface with the Xite-1 :D

Most probably because of more and more use of soft plug-in or DSP solutions like Protools, UAD, SSL Duende or Focusrite Liquid Mix ... you do not need that much real Midi channels then.

Just for quick info:

Edirol UM-880 and UM-550 working super stable and super tight midi timing. Combined within scope, no problem..

win 7 and winxp here.

Kind regards..

Eric, the Midex drivers don't have anything to do with Scope or SFP - they're different hardware with their own IO. They can be connected to Scope using hardware or software ports, just like any other MIDI device.

The Midex series has been abandoned by Steiny since 2003, although they have WinXP/2k drivers released in 2005 @ http://www.steinberg.net/en/support/uns ... dex_8.html

On their support forum, Steinberg declares they didn't make the Midex series, they had a 3rd party do the units, and so Steiny denies all responsibility on further support. Having declared that, they imply that they cannot open source the drivers either, since they're still owned by the 3rd party who no longer employs the original developer. End of contract, it's a dead street. You can imagine the heat in the topic there, the frustration and anger from the users...

Looking at driver development from that angle, we can all work happily in the knowledge that support for our Creamware hardware is being continued by S|C today and in the future - it could have been worse ;)

Planetz must be the only forum where the original poster can ask a simple question, and get tens of replies without showing up again

Typical Steiny. I have the Midex3 which for my needs has been fine, but it has the name "Steinberg" prominantly on the top - so that's a Steiny product in my book. It was because of shit like this that apart from Cubase I will not buy any of their hardware or plug-ins - how many VSTi have been abandoned over the years? Anything that isn't Nuendo or Cubase with a Steiny badge eventually gets forgotten. Why do people still fall for this crap?

I built a dual xeon in 2001 based on the Nuendo 'recommended specs' and it never worked well in the 1.x era with dual cpu's (wel it worked great until they finally followed up on their promises to incorporate VSTi support in 1.5, and 2 updates later at 1.5x I still couldn't load balance VSTi's with VST' in the mixer without cpu overloads & crashing.)

When I built that box, I also bought the "Nuendo interface" which was built by RME (Multiface I) at the time. When one of the i/o had an issue (it was just loose) and it was out of warranty (a few years later) Steinberg claimed that they had no way to remedy this. They also weren't providing driver updates, and since I was already going to RME's site for the drivers I inquired about the repair process. They simply said 'ship it to us' and when I did, I received a brand new (non-Steinberg branded) Multiface I from RME at no cost other than my initial ship-out. I wondered if it was a mistake and inquired to RME, they said they had made a minor revision to the construction to avoid exactly that issue and provided the new unit at no cost to me. Guess which of those 2 companies still gets my business...and recommendation always.

Theres a dude called MREU who might develop an x64 driver for MIDEX8 - he's halfway through doing one for the MIDEX3

Plus a rant by me about how soniccore are still supporting decade+ old hardware where "they" have well and truely dropped the ball...

The "third party" I believe is none other than access music who used a more advanced version of that tech for the virus TI. some falling out probably happened, maybe access did not like how steinbergs support sucked too much:) (i never saw any synth company give more frequent freebies and updates than access)

From Midex to Access to Scope - this closes the loop :D

...ok as in 'neo'...inventor of Virus & Ventilator. D'ya reckon he kept a copy of the Midex driver source code ?
