Hey everyone,

I have absolutely no clue about anything. I just stumbled upon the whole concept of being able to build your own synth and load your own patch presets a couple of hours ago. I've been erect ever since, but I've been frustrated by a ponderous chastity belt of ignorance.

Do I have to pay money in order to create modular patches? If so, how do I do it? I've seen that god-awful, make-you-want-to-throw-your-shoe-through-the-monitor "Registration Surface" a million times now, and I still can't figure out what it wants! How do I use it? Is it meant to automatically send information to a manufacturer? Or receive it? If that's the case, is my firewall thwarting it's efforts? This is killing me!

Someone, please offer some words...

Hi there,

there are two versions of the Modular Synth from Creamware.
The first, version 1, is free, and it's main differences from version 2 are visual - you can do almost everything in v1 that you can in v2.
Version 2 of the modular synth looks much better and has an easier interface, and also includes a few modules not available in v1, BUT it is not free.
You have to pay for it in the Creamware shop.
The installer installs all the v2 software on your machine, but you won't be able to use it until you have the key code, which you'll get when you buy the synth.
There is a 10 hour demo of v2 on the CW site, but there are also loads of version 1 patches which you can download from PlanetZ, or which may even have shipped with your Pulsar software, so you can have a go with those first.
My site has lists of which patches are for which version, so you won't keep accidentally trying to run version 2 patches if you don't have the license for this.

Hmm, I couldn't access this site anymore - anyone know the status of this site, or anywhere else that the v1 modules are available from for download?

You should also note, that the modular synths from Creamware will only run on one of their DSP-cards, meaning Pulsar, Elektra, Scope etc. This will set you back some money, but means that it will run realtime (almost no latency)

Once you have bought a card, installed it and installed the software you can create all the modular synths you like. You can even, as Ben Walker mentions, exchange them with other users.

Don't buy the modular 2 yet, it comes as part of the new $139 Power bundle.
