SFP5 crackles while SFP4.5 no ?

i was using SFP5 since some days after its release.
i haveo to admit that i use the "old" ASIO1 source/dest modules (16 bit) because the new ASIO2 are (or they seems to me) 24 bits ony in Sonar 6.

and so they should be more resource demanding.
now, in relatively simple projects using kontakt3 and the freeware NI kore i experience CPU hogs and crackles.
occasional crackles are also heard during the mixdown in sonar6.
i used SFP4.5 for years without any single problem, except in VERY BIG projects (like a full GPO orchestra with more that 50 tracks), where i had to convert in audio some MIDI tracks.
is anyone experiencing the same?
should i definitely switch to 24 bit? in this case i'm pretty sure to get the DSP overload system since i usually directs a lot of separate tracks from sonar to SFP mixer... or this was what happened in SFP4.5
