Now RC version of the long anticipated SCOPE 5 is here, I want to ask how everyone's experience is coming along.
Please specify your system specs briefly and share your experience, thoughts, critiques, etc.

I stay with 4.5 until XTC is released (and the first bugs are solved) because my songs are all made in Cubase / XTC.

well it's hard to say. First impression is that not much has changed apart from the new look, but then again there isn't really a whole lot I would have wanted to see changed, since the system works just fine.
I think most of the work is under the hood stuff to be able to develop the system further on modern computer architecture, as Holger said in his announcement:
The main challenge
during the development of v5 was to adopt and re-engineer the
application and DSP code basis to a new development environment
which works with Vista, Windows 7 and of course with the architecture
of our new hardware.

Everything seems faster. Faster bootup, faster module loads, faster preset loads, faster cabling hookups, etc.

I actually like the brown, since I view from a distance on multiple monitors, it's easier to see knobs, etc. and is I think better on the eyes over time.

I think SCOPE 5 is only the frist step in the development of SCOPE in the present and future. What we see now is the migration to XITE-1 with some new tools.
The next step will be to clear all the bugs and to improve stability (if it's not done so far - I can't comment on that because I haven't tested S5 yet).
Then new modules, synths effects and so on will be made for this system to be even more powerful.

Hopefully there will be a nearly bugless and more stable XTC-Mode (or perhaps it will have another name) SOON!!!!!!

I totally agree on the new skin; much better contrast. Especially for cabling at longer distances.

The system also feels more stable with improved DSP\PCI management.

I had some issues with continuing a v4.5 project on v5.0 with the system asking for keys for various stuff and I would end up in an infinite loop on the STW stuff. I was going to use the new SC stuff anyway, but I had to revert back to v4.5 and redo\fix the project.
I ended up starting fresh anyway as I felt some of the new plugs where up for the job.

I also had GUI problems with 3rd party\free devices with MDL-extension loaded into the project. This was fixed by renaming them to DEV-extension. MDL's are saved with the project, while DEV's are referenced only. I speculate there is a "bug" with the GUI not being saved properly in the project file.

Other than that, exception errors I had when reloading a project with Impressors in v4.5 are gone in v5.

I'm not going back to v4.x

I'm sticking with V4.5 for now because of 2 reasons:

- Because I'm working on a big V4.5 project, I'm not willing to risk the fact that the same project will cause DSP overload in V5. (reported several times)
- I'm patient enough to wait for the final V5 version, wich will probably have less bugs and maybe more features. And there isn't much that can't be done in V4.5.

I'm not sure it's fair to rate this thing yet. Still needs a lot of work. Give it another 5 years and then we'll see

I went back to 4.5 mainly because I have a business to run and 4.5 actually ran pretty well for me. I'm not the power user like some of you so my needs are pretty simple to begin with. The minor bugs in 4.5 didn't really bother me at all. I thought it might be nice to have the Vista drivers but it's almost too late in the game for Vista. I'll wait for V7 next year. XP still seems OK for me. I'm just happy to see anything happen at all.

I think this poll is a little premature as this is an RC and not an official full release. I'd like to try it out but I don't have time so I'm sticking to 4.5 until the official release comes out. Bring back this poll then and get proper results from a proper release.

Scope 5 is pretty good, faster than before in loading/reloading big projects (that were made in scope 5 at least).
Some small bugs in devices but nothing really serious (graphics).

After a false start (wrong keys) I received new keys and all is fine now

The only thing i miss is a dsp meter that can go to 150 :D

I know it's hardly been a week and this is not exactly a scientific poll here nor was it ever meant to be. In fact, I left the option open so as the newer and hopefully more stable version of SCOPE 5 gets released, you can change your vote. So everyone, please check back & make necessary adjustment to your vote as your experience changes (hopefully for the better) over time.
It's more or less interesting to find out where other SCOPE users are with this long anticipated release. And possibly, just maybe possibly, pitch some ideas on further improvement of the platform.

I did a little test run on SCOPE 5 myself earlier and now I'm back on 4.5 because of the same reason most of you guys have. I'm sure by the next hopefully more stable release the general consensus will be more positive. :)

With that being said, the new color scheme is definitely easier on my eyes. 8)

for a free upgrade there really is nothing to argue. So my vote was clear, all i miss is the sdk atm.

New project starts today, and will be done with V5 unless I hit some wall or show-stopper bug, which I don't foresee happening.

I think it is a positve response already, nobody is making a big fuss over anything, just reporting the bugs - which SC asked for. It seems that Sonic Core has give us a really good update, plus it'll be free for most people and even if you have to pay for the upgrade you are getting far more than you'll pay for.

As a gift i have no complaints and am VERY pleased. Actually i would've purchased SFP 5 with no complaints just for Windows 7 support and better drivers. The added plugins wich are very nice is just bonus for me. I like the color change/new look. I think its a nice upgrade and once the bugs are worked out i suspect most will be pleased.

I'll say it again:

I love the new UI in v5, auto routing MIDI & audio to mixers, etc etc...not to mention the devs, FX, EQs & mixers. There are a few minor, and I say MINOR bugs...anyone sitting on the fence for 198 Euro...(for those using 4.0 or 3.1c) make the leap. It is more than worth EVERY CENT!

v5 RC will mature to become the staple, and stable platform for all S|C users! If you have not downloaded your copy yet...get it...I'm very glad I did. Even though I only have a 6 DSP card (and my XITE is on order), just having the time to work with the newest S|C release, will only make the upgrade even that much less troublesome. When it arrives, I will be ready to swim from day one!

Thank You Sonic Core, Holger, Ralf and the rest of the team! well done & good job!

Oh? How did you get those .oxe files to install properly in SCOPE 5? I've tried the old SFP 4.5 way and nothing happened. :-?
