I've spent many a days doing some side work for the Local 18 Stagehands Union. The Riggers were by far the most qualified. No Union Sound Engineers though (in Wisconsin). But more than enough dim-whitted box pushers! I got to work with so many drum techs from bands like the Moody Blues, Carlos Santana, Sting, Donna Summers, The Pretenders, Depeche Mode, NIN, Stomp, Allanis Morrisett, Tori Amos, Peter Frampton, Gravity Kills, The Hunger, Brian Adams...shit, the list goes on forever...

However, when I was giggin in a Trump casino in the 90's, they were full of Union guys. They would set the volume, and then WALK AWAY! They actually made me share a kit w/ 2 other drummers (real crappy acoustic kit w/ shot heads on them) I actually spent my own effing money to buy new heads for the thing & tune it correctly! I offered my super trick electronic kit w/ 2 rack mount samplers, syquest HDs, mackie mixer, comp, eq, SPX900, overhead mics mounted to the rack w/ a hh mic too..... w/ a finished perfect stereo mix for the snake to FOH....would either of the local musicians there take me up on it....NO I SAY! Not a one! So I suffered through 6 weeks, playing in Atlantic City openning up for some "doo wop" guys in their late 60's.

Monday was our only day off...and what did we do....drove to a bar on Brigantine Island (where our condos were) and hooked up with other cats that were playing in the other casinos at the time, and held open jam sessions, with our own gear, just to play some REAL cool music.

Man, there were some really good session players out there. We did alot of Jazz, Funk, even some covers. The keyboard player would hold up his hand in sign language, to tell the rest of the guys, what key we would be changing to....all improv, unrehearsed, and some of the most fun I have ever had playing music, with some really talented players. :D
