I have a major PITA this morning when trying to Boot my SFP synth DAW.
I recently defragged the drives in my DAW and while doing this I enbled disk ckecking so that on my next reboot I would be able to check the discs on a certain F Drive.
It goes throught the check but then stalls on stage 5 @ 0% and freezes there.
I then went into to the BIOS to see if there was a way to disable this, and no luck.

The real problem lies in the intital screen that says I can bypass disc checking by hitting any key....This doesn't work and locks me out. This is what I want to disable, but cannot find the option for this.
I know the keyboard works fine as I have to select the option for using the 3GB PAE switch prior to disck check, and I have chosen the standard boot, the switch boot, etc.
So why would an option to bpass the disk check lock me out.
If there is anyway to rid myself of this non sense I would appreciate any help.

Wow after 30 minutes it finally has raised to 45% finished, so this is a good sign.
Once I get the project windoe up and everything working, can this disk checking crap be disabled in the BIOS somehwere, or perhaps in the Disk Properties?

Hi Jimmy,

I think you explicitly asked for it when you defragged and optimized your drives. No worries! It's a one shot check but is done every time your reboot till it's not been completed once after you asked for it to process at reboot.
It's a painful wait (particularly when operating on big data partitions) but it is a good thing to have it done sometimes, especially if you don't have a RAID backup system running.

If you don't have RAID Mirroring and care about your music & sound data, I'd suggest you take a look at this.
RAID could save you from some boring & costly data recovery time...

PS: I guess your current motherboard allows you to combine RAID on SATA II. If so, you'd be amazed by what it can offer in terms of disk performances and reliability.

It's all good now, and yes you're correct. I checked it for next start up and it has gone away, but Jeez one hour was unsettling.
I just defragged all of my content as when I add newer libraries, I optimize it's locations for better streamimg.
I used RAID when I first started doing this stuff live.
And found no advantage whatsoever, and since the drives were stable as hell ( WD Raptors ) I saw no need for it.
But many of the new streaming apps are so ineffecient compared to Giga I was going to try a RAID 3 array for faster data throughput and reliablity, but this is overcome by placing libraries according to their use.
For example when I play a grand Piano, I would never used an Upright, or Electric layered with it so those are sperately used and can reside on the same drive.
When I do Horn sections, it helps to have Tenors on D, Altos, Bari and Trombones on E, Trumpets and solo Trumpets on F, etc.
With Giga this isn't necessary but with Kontakt and the giant romplers it's a must, or else you would need a RAID 0, 0+1 or 10 array, or some level that increases throughput and adds redundancy.
These libraries are becoming ridiculously large now, and have so much added Molasses it's insane.
I have been lucky with proper folder placements.
This is extra work though as when loading a new app like K 3.0, you must first install everything to a single drive, then go back and place the folders where you want and then use the data filing system which takes fuckin' forever.

Nice you've made a try. Since my last install on RAID 10 I made during the week-end, I'm experiencing the good and the good:
the good because my apps won't wait for the disk to offer the data stream.
the other good because I know I can bypass the Easy Recovery stuff if it crashes sometimes, and it happens!

And yes! The "who is gonna sell the biggest one" auctions with sample library also gives me headaches! Not that I really own them when I first try but it's not a solution to me.

Anyway! Glad you've not faced the "bad sector at 0x00E125" message when checkdisked your partition.

I think RAID might be the future unless these developers start using better streaming methods.
I just ditched Kontakt 3.0 becuase of it's pathetic polyphony I got using Raptors.
The very same instruments in Kontakt 2 Player work fine, this new upgrade is full of Molasses and just gets worst every year.
Problem is, they avoided paying for the licensing fees that Gigastudio used for their streaming.
It was fine when they had 1 & 2 GB Piano Libraries, but now they claim 100-150 GB is the answer, but they forget to update their streaming capabilities, so it came back to bite them in the ass. Their answer, is get RAID and go 64bit, etc. They should have perfected their apps in 32bit first. Now, over a year later Kontakt is still stalling on thier 64bit version....
Next thing you know they say we need Fusion I/O drives for optimum performance....NOT.
I stay with GVI & K2 as they work just fine.
Hey, I bet next year it might work and even come with a Virtual Conductor since these developers seem to feed on their clients extreme laziness and quest for conveience at the cost of inferior audio and sloppy code..........RANT OVER TILL NEXT TIME>>>>

Now it's almost the time for XITE1 by the way & I'm more an electro guy so they can go to hell with their libraries!
If I need samples, I'll take them from the real life myself and put them in an hardware sampler.

Damn, I am close to have saved enough money for the Xite, thanks to the delay
