Record KICKME goes Off-Click

Hi guys ,I've got this problem : I program a MIDI pattern from cubase, send it to KICKME device, then into ASIO Dest (record the audio result into cubase)

Midi Seq > KickMe > ASIO dest

Problem is that the result is Off-Click (does this term exists ? :) )
It sounds OFF click both in the SFP mixer monitor and the cubase audio track.

I tried changing ULLI with same results.Found no answer in the forum, sorry

What am i doing wrong?

Thanks

Shot in the dark...Did you set the checkbox in the cubase midi prefs "Use system timestamp"? that usually fixes all midi timing probs.

this explains better maybe

It is Cubase SX3 and i'm using with the CREAMWARE EMULATION PORT,yes i applied the midiport filter because i had bad record timing in Cubase.
Now the timing into cubase itself its perfect, just sending notes back and forth SFP they go a bit off. (sry for bad english :) )

2 things:

1. it doesn't sound that bad, there will always be at least 5-10ms 'drift' with any midi device in windows (and OSX).

2. the one beat that 'seems' off is the 1st, the downbeat. But that 'blip' in the metronome is a different note/sound and indeed seems to be a bit 'early' from Cubase. Measure kick to kick (from the kick transient) and you'll see what I mean.

Basically I see nothing wrong here, if you want sample accurate timing from Kickme just record the kicks in isolation (by themselves) and do a bit of hand-editing or load the kicks into a sampler, trim/set start points and trigger them in series.

Exactly the downbeat...i found the problem.
It's strange... the midi timing goes off if you got two separates midi events in cubase...if i glue them together the timing becomes correct,,if there's a line that separates for example 2 midi loops, the downbeat will go off.Strange stuff !
Or not??

BTW the midi port filter didn't affect this problem, i tried moving it and nothing changed

Are you sure the clips are exactly 1 bar in length in the arrange page?

All you need is 1 clip and you can enable looping on it. Make sure that your midi part is trimmed to the bar divisions properly: turn on snapping and either drag the ends to snap, or drag past the bar marker and use the scissors tool to trim on the bar division with snapping on. Then make sure the notes in it are quantized to the beat grid (use the Logical Editor or turn on snapping and do it by hand).

the notes were inserted manually with snap on,so they're perfectly alligned with the "lines" . Also the clip in arrange window is created with bar snap, and locators are placed well

Then I have no idea :) Does seem strange though. I have to admit I didn't bother firing up Cubase to check myself, but I suppose I could.

It happened again LOL ,here's the proof

http://s1.xzshare.com/184376262-offtime ... _PARTS.mp3

The first one is Duplicated midi events (checked em,they're xfectly cut)you can hear the "error"every 4/4

the second is when i put the glue on them

Did i just discovered the weirdest bug ?WTF is wrong with duplicated midi parts ??

BTW,at least now i have the solution of gluing everything...

I'm starting to think that the problem is caused by Midi Port Filter,as you stated before... i noticed that the only Creamware midi in/out that works is the [emulated] ones, the other two (not emulated) are alle muted ! I checked the Midi Devices settings in Cub,and they're activated...
uhmmm from what i read in Cub manual, the ones that should be working better are the originals, not the emulated ... what other pulsarians use as Midi Port in cubase ?
Have i worked with the bad ones up to this day ? ? :o

Midi Hell mode On

PROBLEM SOLVED.I was ready to throw everything out of the window, when i managed to make midi work smoothly with SFP synths and Cubase Sx 3 :)

SETTINGS FOR USING SCOPE SYNTHS TRIGGERED BOTH FROM CUBASE AND EXTERNAL KEYBOARD

SFP : as the 4.5 manual says : Luna midi source ->Seq midi dest
Seq midi source -> Synth->Mixer->output

Cubase sx 3

1.Put back midi port filter file in his folder (= no use of emulated port)

2.The timestamp,i didn't noticed there were TWO of them in the menu, one in Windows Midi, one in DirectMusic . ACTIVATED BOTH

3.Cubase preferences / Midi / Midi filter = all boxes unchecked

4.MIDI THRU ACTIVATED ! (to make cubase"echo" the input coming from the midi keyboard

Thx Valis for your help, much appreciated !
