I was thinking that a virtual Akai sampler would be awsome. Think of the possibilities!!!

I used to have an EMU ESI-32, that was fun... well, sort of

Regarding these E-mu samplers, I still have my "little beast" at home:
E4XT with RFX32. It's kind of a real challenge to program such a deep OS into scope though...

I'm rather thinking of the headaches I got creating programs and auditioning samples with the STS-X000.
So thanks, but no thanks

Nah, we all understood it was a joke (at least I did), but we just want to respond to it. Hence the smilies

I'm gonna think of an awesome response to this thread. You just wait

Actually...
I'd quite like a virtual S950, capable of making the same 'orrible time-stretching sounds, and with shedloads of built-in 'grot'!
IIRC, the SDS Drum Sampler has a really useful bit-reduction and sample-rate reduction function, which I use to get a 'shit 80s sampler' sound on drums sometimes. The disadvantage of it, though, is that because it's designed for drums, it only does one-shot sample playback, meaning you can't adjust note endings (that and the fact it only behaves with 16/44.1 Wav samples).
And yes, I also realise that this thread was originally a joke!
PS. Has anyone tried the freeware time-stretching software called Akaizer? It's fucking brilliant! Just load up a half-second vocal snippet and time stretch it by a factor of about 10. Instant metallic stretched vocal sound!

Hey Chris,
Although this was initially a joke thread, I'm actually planning to make a new akai sample based device for Scope based on an idea I've been mulling over for a while. It's capabilities will only be limited to what I can squeeze onto a single dsp.
I haven't checked out Akaizer yet, but I will do. Nice one!
cheers,
Mark

We're big fans of emu samplers here! Won't be trying to make one for Scope though...

I had an S950 once. A friend of mine borrowed it like 10 years ago, and that's the last I've seen of it - but I really liked its sound, and the dozens of discs I sampled off satellite TV

I only miss it every once in a while, though...
Unfortunately, the links in the AKAIZER blog seem to be down.

Wotcha!
I found a copy of it on my PC - I'll upload it here as a Zip file. It's a very simple .exe file that doesn't require any installation - you just run it, point it in the direction of the WAV you want to stretch, and use the 'cycle length' box to tell it how much you want to stretch it by, as a percentage (1000 being ten times longer than the original, of course).
I've also made a demo MP3 as an example of what it does.
Cheers!
Chris

Thanks Chris! Who'd have thought something this nice would come out of this thread?
Cool mp3 too! Old Skool!

Hello mate,
Yep, it's an awesome little app isn't it! There are a few other parameters that, to be honest, I've never bothered playing with (something to do with emulating the cycle-based time-stretching that the S950 does). But yeah, it nails that oldskool time-stretch perfectly.
RE my S950 emulation idea... though I've never used/owned an S950 myself, friends of mine who have tell me that there was a way to do this time-stretching business in real-time, with the mod wheel on an attached keyboard. Would this be possible in Scopeworld?
Cheers!
Chris

Thanks!
There's real-time time-stretching available on the STS-5000 IIRC.

I remember I tried hard adapting a preset for the Emu E4 found on the web, that does a similar sound.
It had CC control on patchcords but it was not really satisfying at the time.
Great little soft than this Akaizer. Thanks!
