It seems TripleDAT may be free?

Okay, I sound like a noob but then I haven't tried 1/4 of the possibilities of my cards in the 8-9 years I have had them...

Tripledat was software that worked in win98 and used a special card, then i think they made a plugin for "scope" type cards
vdat is a virtual ADAT which works in scope and records and plays wav file "tracks" on to your hard drive (and it sounds really good) but no editing.

There came a version of Tripple DAT, which did not need the ISA card.

free for everybody having mix&master pack2. vdat itself is obviously not sold separately anymore.
you have it when you either get scope 4.5 for

- a 6 dsp card with MM2 pack - or - a 14 dsp card (has both packs).

or wait for XITE and have both packs, also.
