i was seeing lasts dsp toys and i discovered that. i dont know if it is already written from someone in this forum but i realized the plug ins of plugator (a dsp machine which use some instrument plugins) are pratically the same of scope plugins: there are MINIMAX, LIGHTWAVE, B4000 and optionally you can buy for 39 dollar a PROODISSEY identical to scope.

they got a review in German Keys mag recently...
pretty useless stuff, unless you're into presets only and dealing with just a handful of (fixed) parameters
the sound quality is identical of course - their bottomline was somewhat like the (hardware) implementation doesn't do the soundengine justice

yes, also a french review this month about this plugiator. This is of course cheap and the magazine (Keybord Recording) put emphasis on the very good sound of the Creamware/Soniccore synth and vocoder.... Good ad for free so... As for this toy itself, let's say that can be good for a starter but you cannot beat Scope flexibility and polyphony/multitimbrality ... And only few synth are availble. But someone looking for a minimax or b2003 sound for live can be happy with it, I don't know ...

Our sons and daughters while attending Middle School and Junior High, would love these.

Scope4live jr. is inhereting a KS88 and a 6DSP Project card for his good grades this fall, so he won't use the plugiator, as I probably should have bought that for him while he was in grade school,...but once they are 11 years old and higher, flexible routings and an LCD w/ a cheap PC is more appropriate.

I don't approve of Frank Hund's business practices so I wouldn't buy a Plugiator even if it were the most fantastic thing in the world. Neither will I buy that ASX card. It's Sonic|Core all the way for me!!

The fixed control assignments of the hardware interface on the Plugiator do seem to make it somewhat limited, which is a real shame IMO as a more generic approach would certainly have given the unit a lot more 'scope'

I think it's possibly a bit harsh to call it a 'toy' or 'preset-machine' as with full software / midi control you can probably get a lot more out of it than the control surface suggests. I suppose it really depends on how you intend to use it. If you plan on playing it live with no more than a basic master keyboard with mod wheel and the controls on the unit itself, then it is quite restricted. However, combined with a sequencer and midi controller (ASB perhaps?) I guess it would be a lot more powerful. IMO It does represent decent value for money at least.

All the same, it's not something that really interests me ATM. Maybe if I see one on ebay in a couple of years time for £100

I had an in-depth look at the formely mentionned articles in Keys (German) and Keyboards Home Recording (French).
I also had a look at the manual and especially at the midi CC implementation: there I was disappointed as the CC mapping as been changed a lot in comparison to the assignment on the NOAH and ASB/Klangbox (they were hardly the same).
This is a shame as I thought about using the template I made for BCR2000 to use it as a remote controller for such a box.
The "hardwiring" of the controller to some factory assigned parameters would have not really been a problem if they kept the same assignment (Plugiator+BCR2000 would have been an affordable alternative solution to ASB boxes, less straightforward but a bit more flexible).

As a NOAH EX and Scope system owner, I already know that routing possibilities under Scope are far more flexible as within the NOAH though the NOAH is more synth-expander oriented viewed. The NOAH was the first attempt to get "Scope in a box", and the result was not so bad.

My opinion about the Plugiator is then more or less that it can be seen as a "NOAH for the masses" (cheap) or multiple plug-in runner version of the former Klangbox versions of the ASB.
The main lack of this unit is the lack of multitimbral habilities which would have made it a killer a few months ago: providing CreamWare quality sound in an affordable box.
Nothing really new soundwisingly but this was maybe not the target... so far.
The 10 quick preset/plug-in access is a clever trick.

For another budget, the Xite-1 is another solution to get scope in box except that you still need a PC-Mac. You keep all the (routing/flexibility) advantages of the Scope system compared to its other "hardware" children (NOAH, ASB, Klangbox, Plugiator/ASX) with the only drawbacks of still computer needed and price (not that the Xite-1 is overpriced for what you get, but not that affordable for the masses).

I still think that the plugiator would only need a software update to enhance it with multitimbral/layer habilities to reach success. For that price, I would probably think about it once again to expand a bit my setup or to advice the unit to some of my more traditionnal synth friends who are astounished by the sound you have with scope plug-in but do not like computer based solutions.
