I voted no, because I find many avatars to be useless pictures of cartoons and the likes. Often it is just litter in the left side of the screen. I would not like litter on PlanetZ.

you don't really expect to see real pictures all over the place, do you?
I somehow like the idea of those avatars, but mine would look different from what you might think

it would, nevertheless, incorporate higher traffic on every page load, especially if the discussion involves more than 2 people and, thus, more than 2 avatars.
john should tell if that would mean a significant impact on his wallet.
if so, I have to say no.

as a conclusion I for one tend to be undecided with a slight spin towards no.

I agree 100%, but also believe that this feature should be tied to those members who make a small donation, those who disagree should have the option of remaining anonymous.

In that way we wouldn't lose particiaption of members who might jeopardise their jobs or stature in their communities due to certain political positions they might agree with here in the Off Topic Threads.

NO for animated gifs! those can be extremely annoying!

I don't think it would require much webspace, nor wallet-impact.
I don't particularly think donation should be required.

Ok, I've enabled avatars. We'll try it for awhile and decide if we like it or not.

Other people gotta go update their profiles to upload or link to avatars, cuz I don't wanna be the only one with my picture here

After logging in, go the the User Control Panel (see top right link on page).
Click on Profile (in left-side options menu)
Then click on "Edit Avatar"

Upload a pic or link to one. Max filesize for uploads is small (10K) . And avatar max size is 80x80.
